G Jones - Mirage (Saturate! Records)

As you know Saturate! Records from Hamburg is one of my favorite labels for bass / nu beat electronic music. They support young and brave artists and do not hesitate to release more experimental and weird stuff. There is just one requirement - QUALITY.

The new EP "Mirage" by G Jones is another masterpiece from Saturate!. Which might even convince me to approach trap music with a bit warmer attitude. Maybe due to the fact that G Jones, hailing from Santa Cruz in California is a hell of the producer creatively carving out his own style within pretty formulaic genres. Anyway, good music is still good music, whatever you call it. G Jones creates a fascinating patchwork of trap meets juke soundscape with some hints of glich hop or trillwave, full of crazy bleeps, beeps and whatnot in the background. I love such "controlled" cacaphony in electronic music and G Jones delivers his with absolute mastery. Of course he does not forget about the Beat & the Bass. Just listen to "N Judah" and "Mirage" - these tunes will fuucking storm the dancefloors across the world. Or "Alias", strongly reminding me of the Eprom's anthem "Regis Chillbin". While "Pyra" and "Drift" including great synths and distorted basslines, typical for glitch hop tunes, show a real versatility of G Jones' skills. The best trap tune on this EP - "Smoke Rings" (again built on jukeish drums) has the beatifully distorted, talking bass and lovely synths.

Definitely, one of the best and freshest releases this year. Don't sleep on this. Grab this EP on pay-what-you-want basis. The package also includes several great remixes, with "Alias" remixes by Subp Yao and Boeboe  and "N Judah" refix by Trapmaster being my favorite ones.

Fishing the net

Random bits and pieces of music I found recently via soundcloud and twitter. In no particular order, in no particular style.

Om unit - Ulysses VIP (Free Download) by Om Unit

Free download of Ulysses VIP from Om Unit. YOU KNOW YOU NEED THIS!

Kidsuke (kidkanevil x Daisuke Tanabe) - Tiny Concrete Block by kidkanevil

Kidsuke a.k.a. kidkanevil and Daisuke Tanabe has released a great collab showing their fantastic virtuosity with simple keyboards. Little pretty gem.

New jukeish shit from Saturate Records is always welcome.

Spice by Guttstar
And some cool trap for a change.

¿₩H€R€$ TH€ MON€¥? Produced by Low Limit by Nocando

A more serious bizniz with good questions and some answers with Nocando on the mike and Low Limit as a producer. True school!

WAKE UP FEAT. SZJERDENE + INSTRUMENTAL by SLUGABED

A slightly different, 'softer' (but nonetheless powerful) offering from Slugabed. I LIKE!

TOP BILLIN & EMYND - TOOT IT UP [FREE DOWNLOAD] by TOPBILLIN

A change of pace and rhythm. Oktoberfest has started and this pumping carnival joint from Top Billin and EMYND with airhorns, whistles and fast drums seems to fit the bill right.

Finally a fucking HEAVY Sonic Boom promomix by Ruwedata via Lowriders Collective.

Slugabed - Hopin Dem Crackas C Me

Slubabed in another off-kilter and silly remix, which sounds like ... Badass rapper with golden kette on his neck and wrists wakes up in strange woods full of magic mushrooms when suddenly he meets a Little Red Riding Hood on a Unicorn with funny looking guys in Bavarian outfits in tow. WTF?

Top Summer Trax

A selection of tunes on heavy rotation in my player this summer.

Best remix this year so far!! HEAVY!

MAD MAD SCIENTISTS Lunice and HudMo!

Polish producer PTR1 unraveling another absolutely enchanting bass story. I love his
    emotional and touching sound landscapes.

Another interesting producer from Poland in an amazingly brave and ear-catching 8-bit remix
by the Russian Lord of all Pixels. SICKNESS!!!

In general, Trap is not my thing, but as with every genre (fad?) there are some gems to be
found. Ima Work by Madrid is one of them. Slow and soooooo heavy. Me like a lot.

The original still rulez but Surkin’s remix is not bad at all, at all.

Little Boots flipping the script, turning Chicago house into Pop Juke par excellence. I love
    Little Boots.

Grimey, jukey ghetto monster by an African artist living in Europe, Herve Sika. You better
   memorize this name.

    Bass-laden kuduro / tropical bomb.

Street Bass is the brand that never disappoints and Starkey delivers as usual.

One of my favorite producers in a bass-laden masterpiece.

Berlin-based Polish / Lithuanian collaboration with great synths and proper bass.

Amazing remix by Arp 101 of the beautiful track from the latest Slugabed’s LP.

Nice trap beat in this one, Bay Area reprazent.

Aron Airaghi, hailing from Milan, Italy in a smashing, ass kicking edit on Seclusiasis. Check
the entire EP. This guy knows how to handle mainly analog gear.

Only Slugabed could do such a remix and succeed.

     Proper grime instrumental shit.

Growling bass and lots lots of good dub! Killer.

Robots also listen to good music during their leisure.

Painful, melancholic but beautiful trip deep inside yourself. Nobody does this better than
     Lorn.
