Juakali - Freak You Back EP f. Plastician, Stagga & Monky, Tes La Rok, DLX

One of my favorite emcees, Jauakali will drop a very interesting EP - Freak You Back at the beginning of February on Foreign Familiar label. Fans of deep bass and dark vibes should really check this stuff. The title track produced by Plastician is a hot burning, dark roller with super low subs. Juakali's lyrics are delivered in mesmerizing way fitting sooooooo well with the synths and basslines I can only nod my head in appreciation. Finnish dubstep king Tes La Rok added skanking stabs and great drums and the melody that weaves smoothly on top, next to Juakali's lyrics, is simply enchanting. DLX aka Doctor Lazarus X, hailing from L.A., resident of the famous SMOG dubstep monthly, tweaked and glitched the levels on his gear up a few notes adding stomp and filth to the original turning this into typical, growling dancefloor monster. The real treat awaits at the end in Tha Chillski, where Cardiff's finest Stagga & Monky create a genre-bending, grimey riddim, with fantastic, trademark Stagga bassline, slowed-down 'tropical' drums and video game bleeps and beeps. They communicate with Juakali perfectly. DA TUNE!!! EP will be released in all formats, includin vinyl 12". Highly recommended by Doktor Krank.

BBQ MIX VOL. 3 - BOWLY

Super cool homies from BBQ crew (Wrocław, Poland), who in a very short time organized a series of events with stellar line-up, a few days ago released their best mix to-date. Bowly is a young producer from Montreal, Canada specializing in tropical bass, 2-step, urban funky and ghetto bass. Yes, his mix kicks ass big time and it's the hardest stuff - no offence boys :)) - from BBQ camp recently (ever?). His debut release will drop soon on Geiom's label Berkane Sol. The mix includes Bowly's original tracks from the forthcoming12", unreleased remixes (incl. Ilum Sphere's remix among others) and some hot anthems of this season, like 'Deeper' Venom & Damage or 'Different Lekstrix' Mr.Mageeka. Great summer club mix. Highly recommended!!

Kid606 has many music faces indeed and is constantly churning new releases. This time he resurrected his tropical / digital Soca imprint - Shockout and released 6 super tight, heavy-bass tracks. All of them great riddims in a tropical / soca stylee but don't jump to conclusions hearing this term. Forget about sunny tropical cumbias or nice funky shit and scarcely clad ladies shaking their asses. The Disciples of the Dread soundsystem offers evil, dirty, voodooo beats and heavy bass addressed to real badbwoys and gals.

A newcomer to the scene, BADXMAN, shows his tight skills in two tunes with growling bassline, fat afrobeat and dark funky vibe. For me the higlight of the EP are again the tracks by one of my favorite producers -
CARDOPUSHER. After his apparent conversion from breacktore to dubstep (and more heavy bass styles) he drops one bomb after another. "Carne Sentada" and "Youthman Dread" are fantastic digital roots / soca joints with twisted beats in half-step stylee with infectious synths prominently featured on top. I bet, especially in the case of the first one, you won't be able to sit on your ass to long hearing it. Kid606 mashes the classic riddim "Mash up the place" into synth-driven, hectic and scarry (the recent strong trademark of Miguel De Pedro) anti-festival monster, full of dirty claps and snares, building into nigthmarish freestyle of some mad producer. The DigiSoca mix of Mash Up the Place is simply ridiculous. Listen to this and interpret it for yourselves :)
