Tigerbeat6 delivers as usual, with a mind-blowing collection of sick, stomping, bass remixes of  the tunes by Bucfkunk 3000 - better known as Si Begg - released on Tipper's Fuel label back in ... 2001. Since then Si Begg has become a very strong feature on the techno / glitch / heavy bass / experimental electronica landscape. Now  his Seminal Releases High Volume, Jump and Disrupt received a seriously twisted treatment by the knights of sick beats and ultra exeggarated rave basslines, namely Kid606, Kanji Kinetic, the Squire of Gothos, EBOLA, HecQ, Luke's Anger, Bruce Stallion, Wascal, and a special Updated Vip remix from Si Begg himself!!! The highlights include teeth-grinding, bowel turning High Volume refix by Kanji Kinetic (in particular its VIP version), synth-driven digital freestyle in Jump by Ebola, a neon lighted journey through bleeps and beeps of seriously cut-up beat of Jump in Bruce Stallion's Suspiciously Milky remix (love this name!!!),  amen-based breakbeat cannons in HecQ's High Volume Jumpin refix, finally leading to a pure rollercoaster ride of filthy rave from The Squire of Gothos duo in Disrupt. Yeah! Kid606 seems unstoppable at the moment. Next week, Tigerbeat will release another veeeery extended maxi-EP by the master of sonic disaster and his motley crew of collaborators, which I will be more than happy to add to my extensive collection of weird beats and bleeps. Quality and diversity delivered by Kid606 as usual. Starting from dark, deep and low bass anthem of Samhain Atlanta, through pumping electro soca, mash-up frenzy of Another One Bites the Dubstep (Prodigy beats and synths) and typical Kid606 slowed-down bleepy beats in Lowlife Highrolling to a set of pretty diverse remixes.

Minimal funky techno remix of C.L.A.W.S. sounds quite o.k. proving that even in the genre which ceased to develop creatively long time ago (the rumors about its death are a bit exeggerated though) there may still appear tracks which offer something more than a dull repetition leading to irritation. Then, I'm really stoked to see CEX in the company of Kid606 again. I remember this duo from the 90's creating similar experimental electronic landscapes and often working back to back. But if Kid606 was never shy of heavy experimentation with knobs and buttons, Riyan Kidwell's (he he another kid) tracks were always captivating with their smooth melody lines, fantastic synths and infectious vocals. The remix of Kid606's Under Everywhere is no exception to this rule. You should definitely check CEX's recent release on tigerbeat6. Hardcore, UK rave innovator Michael Forshaw shows no mercy in his remix of Hello Serotonin, My Old Friend, whereas Eats Tapes goes into a very different direction with the same track creating a dense, spooky minimal techno joint full of delays and echoes. But the real damage comes next.  dDamage attacks Baltimorrow's Parties with full frontal force of industrial aesthetics and heavily distorted guitar riffs. I agree 100% with tigerbeat's press kit, this shit really reminds me of Ministry's best releases from "Land of Rape and Honey" era. (actually a few months ago I saw Ministry playing a gig in Warsaw - sadly, not much was left of the power of Al Juergensen and co., they seemed to me just another, mediocre thrash metal band). Anyway, dDamage track is definitely one of the highlights of this release. In Gratuitous Baltimore Birthday Jam Kid606 shows yet a different funky and smiley face marrying glitchy hip-hop rapping with oldschool, silly rave beats. Not for all tastes but I wish someone played such a music at my forthcoming birthday :) This extensive release winds up with a twisted R'n'B (?) tune, which in my opinion does not fit the previous tracks at all and is definitely the weakest offering on this very solid EP.

Kid606 will tour West Coast and you should really check him as the decades of experience in production and live sets make him one of the best DJ's you would have a chance to see and hear. He was in Poland a few weeks ago and I'm really disappointed I couldn't make to his show in Wrocław.

Kid606 has many music faces indeed and is constantly churning new releases. This time he resurrected his tropical / digital Soca imprint - Shockout and released 6 super tight, heavy-bass tracks. All of them great riddims in a tropical / soca stylee but don't jump to conclusions hearing this term. Forget about sunny tropical cumbias or nice funky shit and scarcely clad ladies shaking their asses. The Disciples of the Dread soundsystem offers evil, dirty, voodooo beats and heavy bass addressed to real badbwoys and gals.

A newcomer to the scene, BADXMAN, shows his tight skills in two tunes with growling bassline, fat afrobeat and dark funky vibe. For me the higlight of the EP are again the tracks by one of my favorite producers - CARDOPUSHER. After his apparent conversion from breacktore to dubstep (and more heavy bass styles) he drops one bomb after another. "Carne Sentada" and "Youthman Dread" are fantastic digital roots / soca joints with twisted beats in half-step stylee with infectious synths prominently featured on top. I bet, especially in the case of the first one, you won't be able to sit on your ass to long hearing it. Kid606 mashes the classic riddim "Mash up the place" into synth-driven, hectic and scarry (the recent strong trademark of Miguel De Pedro) anti-festival monster, full of dirty claps and snares, building into nigthmarish freestyle of some mad producer. The DigiSoca mix of Mash Up the Place is simply ridiculous. Listen to this and interpret it for yourselves :)

Good people from tigerbeat6 sent me a very fat package including the preview of the new EP from Kid606 - "Dancehall of the Dead" following his superb "Shout at the Döner" album (read my review here) and a few selected items from their recent back catalog.

Dancehall of the Dead is the scariest and deadliest EP from the recent zombic record of Kid606. Oldschool techno rave or kitschy bassline merge here with dark, heavy dubstep sub-bass, bit of jungle, garage, broken beats, dnb or even breakcore offering a more dancefloor-oriented flavour than the original album and featurs jams from the likes of Cardopusher, Cycheouts Ghost, Doshy, Sickboy, Duran Duran Duran, DJ Absurd, Blnd!, Sickboy and the Mr. Wobble's nightmare remix contest winner, Mr. Object, along with Kid606's refixing of his own track - namely Soundsystem of the Dead - a faster and more punchy version of Dancehall of the Dead.

All remixers definitely approached the reengineering task very seriously, thus producing tight, ass-kicking versions which can and should be played out loud in big venues. However, by no means they are typical bangers, but much more than that. The absolute highlight of this release for me is fantastic remix of Monsters by Cardopusher - Venezuelan master of breakcore and dubstep. The original track, 4/4 rave stomper, under the buttons of Cardopusher has been transformed into a slow-burning dubstep bass monster with heavy beats and sick synths plus occasional jungle amens, and lotsa great voice samples. This track would easily fit into the score of any horror movie. SCARRYYY !!! DJ Absurd treated Dancehall of the Dead with heavy bassline and simple beats with great results - an obvious scorcher of any club dancefloors. Blnd! breakbeat / breakcore remix is very solid, with nice kicks and snares, amens and stuff, very entertaining and catchy. I also really dig Doshy's weird, wonky rave beats and crazy synth work. Duran Duran Duran's track of chopped up beats and pumping techno sound with lots of delays and build-ups seems to be a great DJ tool for the peak of any rave night - a definite crowd-pleaser. Sickboy's is another totally different refix of Monsters track, in whch raw, 'silly' techno clashes head-on with old-school acid beats - a bit strange and first hearing, but give it a try, you'll be surprised!! The only thing that did not work for me was dnb remix by Cycheouts, which seems to be quite formulaic and well, boring. I only wish this EP included a remix or two of Samhein California, the best track from "Shout at the Döner", but I should not complain as this EP still offers a lot, music-wise. Actually, much more than this type of EP's have usually to offer. All in all, I can easily give this release 8 stars out of 10. You should definitely check it on 21 of July.

If you dig the new Kid606 stuff, heavily influenced by his relocation to Berlin, you should definitely check Kid606 - kill soundboy kill EP in which Kid606 revamps the title track from his "die soundboy die" ep into a crazy and ferocious stepper full of electronic improvisations and bleeps and punches so typical of him. Apart from that, this EP offers thumping techno and rave tracks and remixes full of proper bass and flirtation with more UK-oriented scene. Bass-heavy "Raving cain" by Bruce Stallion (aka Black Rabbit, DJ Floorclearer), is the highlight of the release for me and this is the track you can download for free:

Bruce Stallion recently released a Big Black Rims EP on tigerbass. Bruce Stallion is actually the new project from Brighton based Dj Floorclearer (Guy Appleton), known for his frantic amen breakcore and for being part of the notorious Wrong Music party crew. He experiments here with heavy bass, crunk, garage and hardcore stuff from UK, melting all this into a weird but interesting treat of ravey voice samples and unsettling melodies, while remixers applied dubstep and bassline aesthetics to produce solid and fatter versions of the title track. In general, quite a nice try Mr. Stallion. Teaser track for you:

Finally, another interesting musician from the tigerbeat stable - Doshy, who has recently released an EP: Bad Beer, Great City Doshy is at the forerunner of the up and coming Berlin Technowobble movement. Electronic producers inspired by the cities vibrant clubscene yet bored with the staticness of it's oversaturated minimal obsession (oh yes I can only support such view!!) . Doshy moved to Berlin from Bavaria and shared a flat with Jamie Vex'd and became heavily inspired by his forward thinking productions and engineering craft. One can hear immediately what direction Doshy would like to take simple techno beats - how he tries to 'wonkify' (what a horrible verb!) them while not necessarily sacrificing their hedonistic values. His music is straight 4/4 dancefloor bangers but with weird twists in the vein of Sinden, Herve or Si Begg. Look out for upcoming Doshy ep's on UK bass label WIDE, Kanji Kinetic's Electrostimulation records, and Doshy's own Robox Neotech. Kid 606’s new album “Shout at the Doner” is an ‘old-school' sandwich with strong synth-punk pop flavor, saturated with simple beats, dark and grotesque atmosphere and rave trips into probably too well-known regions. I remember very well these great raves back then, and his newest music proposition easily clicked with my nervous system full of old time memories, giving me a few pleasant kicks along the way. But don’t worry dear young listener, this album offers much more than just a mere nostalgic muzak for old farts like me. The beat may be simple but the Kid606’s trademark bleeps, glitches and distortions are all there.

Miguel Depedro, Venezuelan laptop master (best known as Kid606), moved to Berlin some time ago and this definitely played a role in his current search for an unpretentious music in the new mashed-up and remixed unreality of the scene late in the first decade of 21st century. He decided to be faithful to his own trade-mark electronica without bowing to any fashionable trends or genres. Thanks to this we received the usual traits of Kid606 productions – ability to infuse tracks with unlimited, raw and pulsating energy, unique, twisted technical skills and intelligent approach to all these music styles floating around. He knows how to kick ass (well, at least mine) and has always had a few surprising drops and bombs prepared for his faithful fans. I’m definitely one of them – I even have a few cassettes with his old stuff at home!!! When I'm thikning about it now, I may even go to the basement tonite to look for an old tape recorder :)

Highlights of the release are: Mr. Wobble’s Nightmare: of course. The title single track has been already remixed by a few artists (with varied effect). The original mix is plain funny and properly heavy, plus it includes an interesting reference to THE sound of bass community – the wobble, hated by many but loved by others (for me personally it is overused in dubstep recently, but a good wobble is always a good party tool). Samhain California: definitely the best track in this package! Very tight, heavy bounce in a kind of tribute to ‘80s synth-pop and early acid beat. A definite banger to smash a few dancefloors. I wonder why DJ’s are not using this pearl more in their mixes?? Malcontinental – ultra-heavy distorted sound, a kind of Kid606 synthesizer solo in which listeners should immediately recognize the sample used. Getranke Nasty, Baltimorrow’s Parties and Monsters: 4/4 crazy rave stompers. Stupid fonky beat I would call it. Makes me smile wild and bark at my co-slaves at work! Bark bark bark …. Dancehall of the Dead: dance or die motherfuckers! Reminds me of the productions of hardcore rave king – Panacea. You all break my heart: a very nostalgic trip for me. This is a track I wish I had heard during my first techno parties in Poland at the beginning of the 90’s. Instead of “Who killed JFK”, “U96” and similar cheesy crap (which at that time was sooo BIIIG!!). Good times: a nice, experimental raeggeton outro.

BERLIN: Shir Khan Bodytonic Podcast & Kid606

I love Berlin! This city is so full of artistic creativity and free spirits I feel more at home there than in my homeland. Sadly, the reality of corporate job and a family to look after, makes it difficult to visit the capital of Germany as frequenlty as I wish. At least I can listen to diverse music produced there. Today I present two mixes, Bodytonic Podcast 34 by Shir Khan - a founder and boss of Exploited Records and European Barbarians Get Down mix by none other than Kid606.

This is a kind of mix which is rather rarely presented on my blog, but I m sure you will appreciate this short diversion from the main themes touched upon by me. Shir Khan’s mix is a top-quality eclectic mix focusing mainly on electro, house and disco but including also other styles – it is very smooth and pleasant. Just for the sunny spring days or hot funky nights.

Kid 606 - European Barbarians Get Down

Kid606 (aka Miguel Depedro) has moved to Berlin from S.F., as many electronic artists before (to mention Peaches, Gonzales, Scuba and tons of others) and two days ago he released his new album called “Shout At The Doner”. Before listening to his new release I recommend this fantastic, heavy and very straigthforward mix. The current Kid606 is not a breakcore / avant-garde electronic artist as you might known him in the past, he has been exploring more 'accessible' dancefloor-oriented regions for some time already, while soaking with lots of music inspirations in the city that never sleeps. And this mix is quite a nice combination of eclectic electronic beats with devastating dancefloor bangers. Kid606 in top form again, full of energy and creativity - I welcome this news with pleasure, as I still remember (and listen from time to time) the tigerbeat releases of Kid606, in particular with CEX, from the end of 90's, beginnig of 21st century.
