Filastine - Colony Collapse EP / Loot LP (Muti Music)

Grey Filastine a.k.a. Filastine, the producer and promoter of transnational bass music, is a Los Angeles born and Barcelona based audio and visual artist. A few weeks ago he released a "Colony Collapse" EP which precedes a full length "Loot LP" to be released on Muti Music on 3rd April. This will be also the beginning of Filastine's one your world tour from Berlin to Tokyo and Brasil to Bangladesh! "Colony Collapse" features remixes by Beats Antique, Squeaky Lobster, L’Ouef Raide and Fletcher in Dub. The title track is built on a rolling, grinding bass with the acompaniament of traditional, indonesian Gamelan orchestra from Sanur, Bali (oh my sweet Bali, I left a good part of my heart in enchanting Sanur!) and featuring beautiful vocals of Nova, a rapper and singer from Malang, Indonesia. I really, really dig this mixture of occidental dubstep and oriental melodies. Beats Antique brought the track to yet another level adding even more instruments to the mix. My favorite remixer, Squeaky Lobster focused strongly on glitchy distortions and seriously cut-up beat, while refixing gamelan bells into tinkling background of an infectious and ethereal sonic trip. L'Oeuf Raide stripped down Colony Collapse into a minimal, future bass thing, whereas Fletcher in Dub, hailing from Capetown, closes the EP with dark dub full of powerful drums. In general, "Colony Collapse" is a tasty, eclectic package, proving that intelligent producers are still succesfully using dubstep formula, at least as the starting point in their music explorations.

Filastine - Colony Collapse by Post World Industries

Colony Collapse video leaves no doubt about the general concept followed by the artist in his "Loot" LP. It is filmed at sites of ecological friction, the fault lines of conflict between humanity and nature. Filastine & team entered into industrial disasters, floods, traffic snarls and scaled a mountain of garbage to show you the slow-motion apocalypse, uncomfortably close and personal.

In "Loot" Filastine looted the cofers of dubstep, moombahton, cumbia, hip hop, baile funk, rich traditional music scene and even 8-bit nintendo, mixing everything into a big transnational bass feast. In his music statement, he gathered his experience, field recordings and sound samples from travels across the globe, from Morocco through Rio de Janeiro and Asia to Barcelona. But "Loot" is definitely NOT just another trendy transnational moombahton/bass release, it is much more. A work of very self-conscious artist who not only entertains his listeners, showing them the diversity and depth of world music, but who also tries to draw their attention to painful problems of our beautiful Gaia. I believe this concept works quite well. "Loot" comes out on Tuesday, April 3rd at most of the Interweb music dealers. I really encourage you to have a listen, dear fellow Earthlings and support Filastine, because he is doing a very fine job.

Ido Wido - Dabkes and Darbukas Mix

I'm drowning with nasty, ugly, boring loan/legal work. I wouldn't have survived this horrible week without incjections of nasty global bass and similar. Here is absolutely fantastic Middle Eastern global bass mix by a DJ from Israel - Ido Wido. By Internet standards this stuff is old (one month he he) and has been already posted to a few sites, but it is so daaaaaamn good I have to give props to this guy mixing beautiful arabic melodies with hip hop / dancehall / cumbia / moombathon and whatnot. I really really dig this selection. Eh, all those arabic tambourines, drums, violins and vocals I definitely miss them.

BoomBaptist - The Creamixes

I'm back from holidays and still full of energy, I'd like to share with you a nice bundle of bass-heavy hip-hop remixes by Andrew Thaggard a.k.a. BoomBaptist, hailing from Austin USA (BTW, I hope you're safe man amidst fire apocalypse raging outside your city). BoomBaptist decided ot give away his favorite remixes in preparation to his first ever West Coast tour, including the gig at infamous Low End Theory. The highlights of this package include the remix of one of my all-time anthems, i.e. Throw Some D's by Rich Boy, with mesmerizing synths and great dreamy vibe, next to Lucifer's Lullaby featuring sick sub-bass and great vocalizations by M.O.P. The rest is equally good. Grab this music for free, definitely worth checking.

Watch out for this guy's official Guilty Simpson's remix, on Fat Beats and his split 7" with Dibiase on Mummed record coming soon!

Powered by Goethe-Institut / Nairobi, BLNRB is an amazing project in which artists from Berlin mingle their artistic fluids with Kenyan producers, MC's and bands. The final effect of their joint efforts and many jam sessions over the span of two years, now to be released in the form of 18-track compilation "BLNRB - Welcome to the Madhouse" is really, really inspiring, eclectic and top-quality in terms of production. This type of collaborations I would like to hear and see more in Contemporary World Music!!!

Jahcoozi, Modeselektor, Gebrüder Teichmann, Mister Abbas, Kimya and Lon´Jon or the first lady of Kenyan rap, Nazizi, electropop band Just A Band and blind singer/guitarist Michel Ongaru plus six members of the HipHop collective Ukoo Flan, offer a real treat of fantastic electronic beatz by top producers from Berlin Bass Maffia and one-of-the-kind African riddims. I only wish there were more collaborations featuring Modeselektor as my personal highlight and definitely the best 'riddim' I heard this year is Monkeyflip featuring Modeselektor, Nazizi and Abbas. What a BEAST!! The same two emcees plus Jahcoozi are featured on the second best track on this compilation, i.e. title Madhouse. Check the entire package, it's super tasty, uplifting and constitute the great soundtrack for your home or office listening as well as outdoor activities :) I can only imagine the madhouse this little funky group creates when live on stage. I wish I was there. Highly recommended by Doktor Krank.

Isaiah Toothtaker - Illuminati Thug Mafia

Machina Muerte label in cooperation with Alpha Pup Records released a few days ago the notoriously good bass-heavy, devilish hip hop album Illuminati Thug Mafia by Isaiah Toothtaker - a rapper, tatoo master, street fighter (among other things) from Tuscon. Straight-in-yer face rhyming, foul language, brave beat mixed to create a powerful music shot for any music junkie looking for a quality fix. The legion of collaborators on this brilliant album ensures the variety and eclectic selection, you have no chance to be bored during the rough trip with your scary toothtaking host. Illuminati Thug Mafia is one of the best and interesting albums of 'canonical' hip hop I've heard for months. My personal highlights include:  Intruder, WTF You Say, Tantamout, Self Control (crazy synths!!! though Pink Floyd fans might have mixed feelings about this one ha ha), Unheard/Unseen (great beat and drums!), but the entire release is of top-notch quality.  Highly recommended by Doktor Krank!

Juakali - Freak You Back EP f. Plastician, Stagga & Monky, Tes La Rok, DLX

One of my favorite emcees, Jauakali will drop a very interesting EP - Freak You Back at the beginning of February on Foreign Familiar label. Fans of deep bass and dark vibes should really check this stuff. The title track produced by Plastician is a hot burning, dark roller with super low subs. Juakali's lyrics are delivered in mesmerizing way fitting sooooooo well with the synths and basslines I can only nod my head in appreciation. Finnish dubstep king Tes La Rok added skanking stabs and great drums and the melody that weaves smoothly on top, next to Juakali's lyrics, is simply enchanting. DLX aka Doctor Lazarus X, hailing from L.A., resident of the famous SMOG dubstep monthly, tweaked and glitched the levels on his gear up a few notes adding stomp and filth to the original turning this into typical, growling dancefloor monster. The real treat awaits at the end in Tha Chillski, where Cardiff's finest Stagga & Monky create a genre-bending, grimey riddim, with fantastic, trademark Stagga bassline, slowed-down 'tropical' drums and video game bleeps and beeps. They communicate with Juakali perfectly. DA TUNE!!! EP will be released in all formats, includin vinyl 12". Highly recommended by Doktor Krank.

Sickrime Komitty - Fuck Th'Mole

I really respect people who are able to laugh at themselves and make me laugh in the process :) Th' Mole has the skill. Apart from being a really nice and cool dude, he is a very entertaining performer and producer. Listen to this diss song and sing-a-long ha ha ha.

Mocking lyrics on bandcamp page will definitely help. Here is a short snippet :)

goddamn, mole, haven't you ever heard of good
music? ..maybe you should try and do it.
. cause yours sucks - it's not even hip hop - it's
poppycock - you better make that shit stop.
.you love unicorns? i'd love to see you im-
paled on one - you're a failure, son.
. you got a song called how to be cool but if you
really want to be cool you'll kill yourself, mole

Sickrime Komitty - Fuck Th'Mole (via bandcamp)

... and don't forget to check a more 'serious' production from Th'Mole - I Love Unicorns maxi single, with remixes by Robot Koch (as usual, great synths!!!!), The Flying Skulls and Fietboer plus the psychedelic gibberish banger Shocky Guy Go. You'll understand better (i think) all those unicorn references above :)

Pagen Elypsis - One Hit Away (Zarkov Remix)

Let me please introduce mutant glitch hop par excellence. A f****g banger, I tell you. Zarkov -a homie from Glitch Hop Forum and a part of new, interesting collective of beatmakers Tape Death hailing from Australia - remixed the first single of the debut release One Way Ticket by Adelaide's leading hip-hop crew Pagan Elypsis. Zarkov created a banging monster of midtempo bass heaven. I can't wait to feed this beast to my car's sound system and cruise the streets with subs pumped up full turning my car into one big boombox on wheels :)) Ride ooooooon!

Hovatron - "Rain in Montreal" Lookout Mixtape # 2

The flood of good mixes continues. This time Montreal's finest crunky, electro, glitchy, RnB, UK urban, you-name-it producer and DJ - Hovatron dropped a really twisted mixtape for Lookout. Lazer Sword, Lunice, Hovatron vs. Mosca, El-B, Ramadanman, Kingdom plus Lil B, Timbaland and more, the eclectic selection as usual. Nice, funky mix with great vibe for all you badbwoys and badgals out there. Makes me smile and nod my head to the beat and sing to the great acappelas.

Maceo Wyro f. Sebol - Kosmos vol. 27 Radio Roxy

One of the most eclectic Polish Dj's and radio hosts active on the scene for decades now - Maceo Wyro is a host of a radio show in Radio Roxy called Kosmos.  Here is vol.27 of his musical trip as recorded on 18 Sept 2010. Maceo Wyro, associated with hop hop scene for years, runs the best radio show for new mutant, post hip hop beatz in Poland. Just look at the tracklist, starting from the f...g amazing tune by a Russian Moa Pillar from the recent Error Broadcast comp, through Japanese heavy beat offering of RLP, and superb beatmakers like Dibiase, Starkey, Maddslinky, Nosaj Thing or Swede:Art. The top selection totally in line with my music taste! Enough said, this very podcast made me buy a few new tracks, which does not happen very often :) His show last Saturday featured Sebol, a hip-hop promoter, blog writer, journalist from Poznań who dropped more funky and straight hip hop joints along with some dubstep (Ramadamman) and more twisted glitchy electronica (Robot Koch, Dabrye). All in all the best beatz to be heard on the Polish radio airwaves atm. Beware: radio host and guests speak Polish which can be fun for all you international listeners (I hope :) ) Highly recommended by Doktor Krank!

DJ Auricom Mix & Up To Date Festival in Białystok

Białystok is the biggest city in North-Eastern part of Poland. I was born and spent first 20 years of my life in a small city near Białystok, thus I am fond of this city 'by birth', but  also beacause this is a city full of bright, happy people, with enormous potential, and very consistent and thriving music scene. The central point of music activity is definitely a Metro Club, which has been a permenant feature on the Polish clubbing scene for years, always offering the best selection of artists from disco to dubstep and housing some legendary parties (also the place where I experienced [and barely survived] the best party of my life with the super cool dudes from Lazer Sword & others- check my report here).

Now, the time has come to bring Białystok music scene to yet another level. September, 25th this year will mark the birth of the big electronic music festival Up To Date organized in a big complex of post-military warehouses. Three scenes: hip-hop &  techno & dubstep / heavy bass featuring: Tes La Rok, Ebola, Sandwell Distric Live (i.e. Regis and Function), top Polish rappers with Abradab from legendary Kaliber 44 crew or one of my favorite Polish MC's - Eldo and many other.  Everyone will find something up to his musical taste there. Do come, I guarantee you will not be disappointed, the more so as the Festival offers not only great music but a lot of other artistic pleasures.

One of the organizers of Up To Date festival - DJ AURICOM - a homie, resident of Metro Club and very talented DJ known of eclectic and divserse selection in his sets, has recently released a short mix for Made in Białystok portal which I highly recommend. Glitch hop meets electro meets dubstep meets rage against the machine.

Quality Glitch Hop meets Quality Hip Hop: SPLATINUM vs. KING FANTASTIC

ARTIST: SPLATINUM
TITLE: Love for Those Hustlers EP
LABEL: Bass Drop Music | Street Ritual
CAT-NO: BDM-001
FORMAT: Digital
RELEASE DATE: 05/15/2010

Track Listing:
1) Love for Those Hustlers
2) Sipping on That Sizzurp
3) My Posse is on Broadway
4) Know About the Dirty South
5) It?s Bigger Than Glitch Hop
6) Vadonna's Magina

Two great releases has just arrived to my dropbox. Both crews hailing from the sunny Cali, both offering super slick beat and sick rapping and madafucki**ganstashizzle. Both available totally FOR FREE!!!!

First of them, SPLATINUM is back with a 6-track devotional to the gangsters and the hustlers. The “hip hop obsessed” Seattle duo has been getting freaky with the samples and blessed it all up with their slippery signature frequency modulation swagger. Call in the mop boy for this one. Super sonic clean up in booth 3!
It's Bigger than Glitch Hop or Know about the Dirty South are my personal highlights but listen carefully to the entire release - it's classic (classy?) Glitch Hop with distorted, glitchy basslines and synth work, sick beat and fantastic acapellas! Highly recommended by Doktor Krank.

Grab this hot stuff on Splatinum's bandcamp:

King Fantastic's debut album "Finger Snaps and Gun Claps" is the best Hip Hop album I've heard in a long long while. Super heavy-weight LA duo of Killer Reese One and Troublemaker present a "concise study in Westcoastsynthesizerbeachbumgangstermusic" :)) with ear-catching rhyming and super tight, stomping beat, it is a veeeeeeeeerrrrrrry serious head-nodding biznizn. My favorites tunez include: Lost Art of Killing, Stop Fucking Paying, D-boy Stance, On-q or Why?Where? What? but every single song on this absolutely fantastic record is a sure winner. nic - RAAV MIX - tight es ever

nic - RAAV MIX (direct download)

78 mins /256kpbs / 150mb
A mix of offkilter downtempo, hip hop and dubstep beats”.

A great selection of heavy glitch hop, mid-tempo, dubstep tracks in the new, tight as ever, mix by nic from Australia. The absolute highlights for me are Missy Elliot – Best Best remix by Two Fingers (Amon Tobin and Doublecklick) - Two Fingers will be huge, watch me werds, anything they touch instantly turns into gold!!!! And Polkadots blues from Hudson Mo (I f…g love this tune), the remix of Appparat’s – Hold on - what a killing sound!! and last but not least Lily Allen – LDN in South Rakkas crack whore mix. Plus of course tons of big names like Flying Louts, Kid 606 (yes!), ediT, Bassnectar, Zomby, Joker, Rustie, Starkey etc. The mix moves from wonky / crunk territories into heavy glitch hop and finally stark street / dubstep bass. Explosive cocktail for sure.

Restiform Bodies - Interactive Halloween Bear (Lazer Sword Manhole Remix)

Restiform Bodies to eksperymentalny hip hopowy (a właściwie freak hopowy) skład z Oakland znany z przepysznych dekonstrukcji muzycznych.

-------------------------------- English ----------------------------

Restiform Bodies is an experimental hip hop(or actually, freak hop) crew from Oakland, famous for their delicious music deconstructions. They have released their second album recently: TV Loves You Back and now they announced a Remix Contest for two tracks from this album, which will be then released on a limited vinyl edition at the beginning of the next year. Maybe some “crazy” producer from Poland would like to participate in this competition?
However, one will have to compete against such fantastic lazer bass champions as Lazer Sword, who produced a real ass-kicking remix: Restiform Bodies – Interactive Halloween Bear (Lazer Sword Mandole Remix)
