Early Autumn Charts

Early Autumn was a good time for fans of contemporary electronic music (preferrably with lots of bass in it). We saw a few heavy releases, which more or less lived up to the expectations (Robot Koch, Rustie, Modeselektor, Martyn, ill.Gates, Zomby), my pet labels, Saturate! Records and Robox Neotech released fantastic debut EP's (Raadsel, P-Fang), many quality tracks floated around the interweb. Meanwhile on my local scene, U Know Me Records confirmed their status of the best label for contemporary, twisted hip-hop beats made in Poland with very fresh and 'vintage' release Futura by a talented producer Galus. I hope my next charts will be equally rich with interesting contents.

TOP 23 TRACKS OF 2010 BY DOKTOR KRANK

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the time has come, as every year to post a list of the best productions of 2010. Creation of the ultimate top list is a futile task, thus my ranking is just a tip of an iceberg, as 2010 was extremely good for music I love. There are definitely names and tunes missing from this list and I had to self-limit myself painfully not to spend days on setting up this monster. I deliberately ommitted a few bigger names like Starkey or Mount Kimbie, they will anyway appear on other lists. And to be honest, I don't understand how people can manage to squeeze all great music into top 10 ?!!?!?  As with Oscar awards - music released at the end of the year tends to be over-represented but this is a rule of the game. Enjoy my Top-23 tracks and remember this is veeery subjective so I accept no complaints :))  I wish 2011 to be equally good. Howgh!

Oh boy – the chip digital music by the Lord of All Pixels is killing me!

7. Emika – Double Edge (Ninja Tune) 
Deep, emotional, awesome!

8. Deadboy – Long Way to Go (Well Rounded Records)
I fell in love with this girl’s vocal immediately and the way Deadboy plays his keyboard - OMG.

9. Doshy – Sunset (Demokracy Remix) (Robox Neotech)
Germany meets Russia in one of the best and powerful remixes this year.

10. Moa Pillar – Water Lily (Error Broadcast)
More torrential hurricane of straight-in-yer-face synths from Russia. It hit me hard first time and I have applied the same treatment regularly since then.

11. Los Rakas – Abrasame (Uproot Andy Mix)
Ghetto tropical cumbia fantastique!!!

12. Magnetic Man – The Bug (Columbia)
Super Group in a super tune.

13. Roots Manuva – Witness (Slugabed remix) (Ninja Tune)
Sluga did a f...g remix!

14. Robot Koch – Brujeria feat. Graciela Maria (Robots Don't Sleep)
Top electronic producer and beautiful female vocal always work for me, though rarely with such a force as in this track.

15. Swede:art – I’m a R.O.B.O.T. feat. Blaktroniks (TOKiMONSTA remix)
Superb remix by TOKiMONSTA. Totally addictive.

16. Lazer Sword – Shot in the Nite (Innovative Leisure)
Funky disco era anthem! I want more.

17. Stephen Jacobs, Sugarpill feat. Naada – Level Attack (+verb spaced out remix)
Three great producers in one track plus a female vocal - what more can you wish from music?

18. Schlachthofbronx (f. Spoek & Gnucci Banana) – Ayoba (Top Billin remix) 
Air-horn carnival butchers from Munich and their great hit fantastically remixed by Finnish producer Top Billlin.

19. King Fantastic – Lost Art of Killing (Hollyrock)
Yo, bitches, time to rock your asses'n'ttities to this gangsta rap shit.

20. Disrupt & Soom T – Dirty Money (an-ten-nae remix) (Muti)
yeah yeah yeah yeah best riddim of 2010!!!!

21. PTR1 – Cold – (Concrete Cut Recordings) 
 Beautiful, deep, bass meditation made in Poland. World class production and unrivaled mood setter.

22. Inaudible – Quiet Addicts (bandcamp)
Sick, twisted, heavy bass horror show of epic proportions.

23. AQF – Born and Raised (AQF)
AQF was definitely born and reaised in hell. This tune is as dark as the darkest pits of hell, and I LOVE IT.

DOKTOR KRANK'S SUMMER CHARTS 2009

It is summer but by no means my tracks are on a sunny side of the rainbow. This is more or less what I like most this season to-date. Some of the tracks were probably released earlier, but I’ve heard them just recently.

MOCHIPET – GODZILLA NEW YEAR (DAVID STARFIRE RMX) Best remix on absolutely fantastic Mochipet’s Godzilla New Year’s remix EP. Ultra heavy glitch hop in an oriental sauce. Delicious!!

GS BOYS - STANKY LEGG (LUNICE REMIX) - Lunice is DA MAN, he makes no errors in his remixes! (check it on Sample’s mixtape)

RQM – BARELY EVIL (BIG DOPE P GHETTO NASTY REMIX. F…g bouncy, killing ass-shaking ghetto tech booty

FULGEANCE – ANN ARBOR 4x4 looped synths and infectious IDM melodies. Memorize the name of this French producer – he is on the rise.

ZOMBY – HELTER SKELTER After a listening a few times, this seems to be one of the best tracks on the newest release by one-and-only Zomby (maybe because it reminds Zomby EP most). On the whole I need some time to get convinced about his new album.

FORENSICS - ALL TO WASTE FT. INDI KAUR Beauty lies in the Ear of the Listener! Wonderful and spiritual track. Forensics never disappoints.

DAEDALUS - C'EST SUPER (MICHNA REMIX) Well well well ‘weird’ remix of even weirder song. Quite accessible for a Deadalus track.

CHIP CHOP – LAUNCH BLANK A highlight of the recently released “Motion Sickness” compilation on Run Riot Recordings. Proper glitch action with live drums and infections synths. Intense and deep.

KITIMAT – AMSDN Another killing track from Motion Sickness comp. Wow, this bass is soooooooo heavy. Plus very nice and infectious melody and synth work – spacey dub joint par excellence! (Download Motion Sickness FREE Minimix.mp3 and check the entire compilation as it includes much more goodies)

RUSTIE – BAD SCIENCE I know you’ve heard this track many times but I cant have enough of it and finally Bad Science EP drops on 17 Aug.

BASSNECTAR – COZZA FRENZY This bass will make you scream and shout and kick wild around! Don’t try and drive a car while listening to it! Banging indeed, even if too much on a Rusko tip! Bassnectar did it again!

SABBO (FT. MC ZULU) - SPANISH FLY (NOIZ IN ZION REMIX) Dancehall funky dubstep. I want more!

HOCKEY - SONG AWAY (JACK BEAT'S ANGER MANAGEMENT REMIX) Crispy production and pumping, pounding all-encompasing joint by Jack Beats'. Acid tip again!

MOCHIPET – GODZILLA NEW YEAR (AN-TEN-NAE RMX) Super ill glitched electronica with heavy bassline and fantastic melody. Ask your car’s sound system about the opinion on this track – your car will be delighted!

MIKA - WE ARE GOLDEN (JOKERS OF THE SCENE REMIX). Acid banger of the month!

M83 - WE OWN THE SKY (UDACHI REMIX) Drill core banging dubstep! I feared this track will make holes in my car’s roof and windows will fall shattered… and it begins so innocently.

AN-TEN-NAE – ILL The illiest glitch hop / crunk producer coming back with 5th installment in his Acid Crunk series. BIG!! (a similarity of Ill to his HTL’s remix is no accident)

MAJOR LAZER – HTL (TAMBOUR BATTANT & THE UNIK REMIX) Great bass-heavy and glitchy remix of the remixed-to-death HTL by the French electro outfit Tambour Battant and The Unik

FAUNA - EL ZOMBIE (DISQUE DJ REMIX) (download the entire record of Fauna’s remixes for free) Great cumbia reggae with fantastic synth work and infectious dubby rhythm.

WILEY VS. SKEPTA - TOO MANY MAN (DJ ABSURD FUNKY BASSLINE REMIX) DJ Absurd's refix added more depth to the pretty fast grime flow of the original and the bassline is veeeryyy tasty.

SELF EVIDENT - THE WALK Proper stomping beats with dancehall riddim with great drops, kicks and snares. Dirty bassline and delayed vocals create very dancefloor oriented vibe. I love Canada.

KAT1LYST-STARING BACK AT YOU AS YOU FADE (DE NOVO CREATION CUT) Great glitch hop track of Kat1lyst in a warm and deep edit by De Novo Creation.

Top 11,5 tracks – March 2009

Tracks on permanent rotation in my player in March:

1.Eprom – 64 Bytes (Boreta Remix) Great track remixed by one of the best and busiest glitch hop producers from Glitch Mob family. Perfection!!

2.Nosaj Thing – IOIO. Anything produced by this man is pure genius. I am eagerly waiting for his album Drift to be released in June. You can hear a fragment of this track here on Mary Anne Hobbs show from 25 03 2009 - a first track of the show.

3.Ben Samples – Drank in my cup. Head-nodding banger slowly burning holes in your mind by a talented young gun on the scene (Also check his fantastic crunk / hyphy live set Live at B.side Lounge 2009 and a free 3-track EP. Ben Samples is another producer fished from an ever-expanding glitchhop forum.

4. Starkey – Gutter Music ft. Durrty Goodz . I’ve heard it months ago, but I had to somehow mark the release of this track (just a few days ago).

5. Th’Mole – I hate you. – Best track on his album released on 10 March 2009 Greatest Hits (Ha, Ha, Ha) vol.1 – check my blog for more info.

6. Mochipet vs. A-ux – Sharp Drest Remix A ‘romantic’ twist added to fuc…g great track by one of my artists of the year – Mochipet (He will throw a live set here in Warsaw, Poland on 17 April, YES YES YES!)

7. Robot Koch vs. Cerebral Vortex – Upside down (forthcoming EP on Jakarta records ) One of the best producer – vocalist duos strikes back. I am eagerly waiting for their EP – the title track is dope.

8. Kat1lyst – Gun Cocked Mental Distortion. Distorted glitch hop at its best! Track from quite a good 16-song release Walk With Me which you can download for free here (Big up the entire DirtyFilthyWhomp crew).

9. Knowa KnowOne - Free Energy feat. Seasunz, Firewater, Wiseproof and New Eon – great midtempo, whompy track with fantastic hip-hop / reggae vocals. Check the entire EP by Knowa KnowOne.

10. Hostage – Murder Rocket – lifted from noisepornblog – Hostage is Da Man! Huge, bassline plus old-school breakdown in the middle works amazingly. Bang your head, bang, bang till you drop! Hostage, next to Don Diablo, is definitely the name to watch on nurave / banger scene.

11. Calvin Harris – I’m not alone (Herve’s See you at the festivals remix) thanks to voulesrandom blog Another banger from Herve and quite contagious shite.

11.5 Forensics – Music Box Dancer (Hibernate EP) - The Master of atmospheric dubstep in a beautiful and much too short intro on his new EP. Pure nostalgia…
