Early Autumn was a good time for fans of contemporary electronic music (preferrably with lots of bass in it). We saw a few heavy releases, which more or less lived up to the expectations (Robot Koch, Rustie, Modeselektor, Martyn, ill.Gates, Zomby), my pet labels, Saturate! Records and Robox Neotech released fantastic debut EP's (Raadsel, P-Fang), many quality tracks floated around the interweb. Meanwhile on my local scene, U Know Me Records confirmed their status of the best label for contemporary, twisted hip-hop beats made in Poland with very fresh and 'vintage' release Futura by a talented producer Galus. I hope my next charts will be equally rich with interesting contents.
So Undead! is an exhibit about making connections between seemingly unrelated genres: Extreme Guitar Music ie. Punk, Metal and HC and the endless shades of Electronica. The art that will be shown at the event is wholly based on interviews conducted with artists, who in the past have dabbled in guitar distortion and are currently masters of the art of the synthetic. The interviewees include: Mary Anne Hobbs, Robot Koch (Jahcoozi)..., Cristian Vogel (Super Collider), T.Raumschmiere, Lars Kirchbach (Tolcha), Vladislav Delay, The Foreign Beggars, The Creep, Sneaky (Fingathing), The Bug etc. So Undead! is an exhibit about making connections between seemingly unrelated genres: Extreme Guitar Music ie. Additionally Robot Koch, Cristian Vogel and Sneaky will be playing an eclectic mixture of Garage, Punk, Metal and Electronica.
The project was curated by Lukasz Polowczyk (a.k.a. RQM) & 44flavours
HELL YEAHH! What a crazy and interesting project. I wish I had a teleporting device. I would immediately go to Berlin next Monday, 3rd October to experience this one-of-the-kind event.
Coming from heavy metal / hc background myself I can only welcome this initiative with open mind and great expectations. Robot Koch, Cristian Vogel & Sneaky playing a mix of Garage, Punk, Metal & Electronica = PRICELESS :) Highly recommended by Doktor Krank.
Schedule of the Event:
5.30 - 6.30 Sneaky DJ set
6.30 - 7.30 Cristian Vogel DJ set
7.30 - 8.30 Robot Koch DJ set
8.30 Screening
On this occasion Robot Koch has prepared a really peculiar mixtape SO UNDEAD, a patchwork of death metal / thrash metal / grunge vs. electronica featuring, among others, my favorite heavy metal band - i.e. Anthrax (I've been endlessly teased by devouted Metallica fans for this), gurgling death metal band Morbid Angel as well as Distance or EPROM. Sounds .... strange to say the least :)
Arghhshshihowwheeeeeeereeeeeherhhre.
Jakub "NOX" Abroziak is a talented 20-year old beatmaker from Poland. On his Atom EP he offers a fresh mix of spacey post hip-hop beats, strange vocal samples with plethora of bleeps and off-kilter sound effects. Diversity is the key when describing the music of this youngster who explores various paths of electronic landscape, in the end knitting them together into quite interesting and developed compositions. His production skills still leave room for improvement, but he already knows how to build intriguing atmosphere and ear-catching passages ("Atom", "Free Electron" or "Women in Hiroshima") and is not afraid of more experimental excercises ("Proton Decay" of "Neutron/Altai"). As a deliciously tasty dessert come two remixes by heavy-weight champions of new beatz from Germany and Poland. Proton Decay's remix by one of my favorite producers, Robot Koch from Berlin, is my personal highlight of the entire release. This guy never disappoints! His music imagination and sensitivity along with the immaculate production always work soooooo well with my emotions. His tunes are simply "touching" for the lack of the better word, and this remix is definitely one of the best I've heard from Robot this year. Teielte from Poland keeps pace with Robert, delivering a nice up-beat refix of Quarks. All in all Atom EP by Nox is definitely worth checking and I'm really proud that more and more artists from my country hit the global (if niche) electronic music circuit with quality stuff.
I feel like slaying a few throats with clean cutting lazers. There are so many dumb-ass targets around me I would have serious problems from whom I should start. Pakistani Starfleet Commando figthing Gigantic Dove Invaders are my heroes this week :). To do my job properly I need appropriate music score. Here is the selection of latest & gratest in neon lazers. Enjoy
HALP, hailing from the Netherlands, will soon release (23rd May Boomkat) a fantastic EP Gazzillian Yeers, where lazers par excellence meticulously spray the listeners and slow burning neon synths, 8-bit distortions and twisted melodies complete the act of destruction. Definitely one of the best releases in May!
This Friday, I will attend a super great U Know Me Records night at Cafe Kulturalna featuring Robot Koch and fLako !!!! Listen to this sick mash-up of Lil'' Wayne's Stuntin' Like My Daddy vs. Robot Koch vs. fLako. Treasure!
Mochipet brings more super heavy lazers in his remix of Mike Jone's "My 64". Glitchy as shit mash up full of great samples (one you'd recognize immediately) and unique, one-of-a-kind Mochipet's slabs and drums of pure liquid bass. Quality as usual!
Graintable, a cool dude from Portland is about to release new tracks on Simplify Recordings and CarCrashSet. Glitchy, crunky and melodic, the way I like! Check it out:
Finally ultra heavy lazers courtesy of Bart Tyrpien a.k.a. Bartlomein, He has just released his first EP with self-explaining title :) Let Lazers Guide You In. A guy born in Poland who migrated some years ago to the USofA delivers 5 tracks with glitched to the max, pulsating basslines and nicely woven vocal samples, plus hard pads and drums - definitely the music which works best with big party soundsystems. Recommended!
Corporation is squeezing the last juices from me, my blog suffers, but I shall never surrender he he he. I present a few tunes worth checking out of the mass of music that accumulated over the last few weeks. I would like to apologize to all the great artists and promoters out there sending their stuff to me but the time is a scarce commodity in Dr Krank's mansion recently. Trust me, I hear ya and I hear your stuff. Keep up the good work guys - I love you! (Dr Krank's waving a hand in late Michael Jackson's manner).
I am really proud to post a couple of tunes coming from Poland. U Know Me Records, a new sibling labal of JuNouMi Rec (releasing polish hip-hop since 2002) is definitely at the forefront of new beatz movement made in Poland right now. After a fantastic release of Teielte's Homeworkz (read my review here) and an interesting LP Digital Gaden by Kixnare last year, they have new tunes in the pipeline.
The first release from U Know Me in 2011 is a laidback, jazzy and twisted funky stuff from Daniel Drumz available on 10" vinyl or in digital format (e.g. on Juno) Here is the preview of the title track "Lay Low On The Treble" reminding me of the music released on Tokyo Dawn Records. Really good quality and nice work Daniel!
The next release on this label will be even better!! Let me take you for an absolutely mesmerizing and enchanting trip with Lower Entrance featuring oneiric vocals of Natalia Grosiak. This tune made my day and really helped to drop out at least for a few minutes. Longish intro leads to the great, trippy beat with a nice use of delays and Natalia singing in a manner of Oriental divas. She bought me instantly.Unknown Variation is the first single from forthcoming Lower Entrance's EP [UKM 004]. Can't wait to hear the rest of the stuff.
ptr1 from Płock (Poland) released one of the best EP's of 2010 (Above the Structures), and his Cold has been haunting me for months. His new tune Warmth posted to soundcloud is equally good. ptr1 again creates the moody sonic excursion into the barren land. Beautiful!
Robot Koch is a great producer but equally good remixer. What he did to Kraddy's Let Go, as a part of the Labirynth Remix Project , is simply 'osom!! Lush vocals of Juice Aleem and Justice and heavy bass, dubby beat make this tune an instant crowd-pleaser. I wish I was now at the dancefloor in some club with sweaty bodies dancing and jumping around me to this groovy robotic rhythm. TIP!
More twisted stuff from Pixelord, a free download of Tropical VIP refix of his Fish Touch from the recent EP on Error Broadcast, also posted on xlr8r site yesterday. Properly UK basssed tune. I LIKE!
Finally, the carnival butchers from Bavaria, Schlachthofbrox, in a preview of their forthcoming Nasty Bass EP dropping 15 Feb on Mad Decent. Ghetto Bass mixed with Cumbia, occasionally going into the extremes of Juke House frenzy. I love these crazy bassterds.
Part two of my best of the year series. Top 10 Releases of 2010 feature best LP’s and EP’ published last year. Again, as in the case of Top Tracks, I hate myself for leaving out so much great music. Thus I decided to at least mention the runners-up at the bottom of the list, which is still just the tip of an ice-berg.
2010 music-wise was absolutely AWESOME with new, niche genres and cross-genres gaining on popularity (e.g. glitch-hop, west-coast blap and beats, mutant hip-hop beats, future UK – wot u call it – thing) and the wind of creative change blowing most strongly from across the eastern Polish border – from the land of Mother Rossija – where tenths of talented producers (e.g. DZA, Pixelord, Demokracy, Moa Pillar, Pavel Dovgal, Myown to name just a few) are churning wicked tune after wicked tune in all the shades of dayglo synths. German and Dutch beatmakers (like e.g. Halp, Coco Bryce, Doshy, Robot Koch, Swede:art) are finally gaining, quite deservedly, the proper recognition across the world for their brave and creative approach to beatmaking. Central and Eastern Europe is finally waking up and starts participating actively in the global scene (releases by PTR1, Teielte from Poland, Montgomery Clunk from Romania or 1000Names from Bulgaria are absolutely world class). UK urban sound is morphing like crazy, I have lost the track of all the transformations and trends long time ago. Well, to be honest the apparently thriving UK Funky or Future Garage is not my thing, but it seems producers on this scene are flirting more and more often with post hip-hop beats which I can only support whole-heartedly expecting more developments in this area in 2011. Last year was also a tough time for any writer / blogger / journalist, your humble narrator including, who embarked on a futile task of describing the music which escapes any categorization or pigeonholing like never before. Using this opportunity I would like to kindly apologize for misleading or confusing terminology used in this blog. I hope this will continue in the future :)
I may sound like Euro Nationalist (I am not), but 2010 was apparently the Year of European Label. Error Broadcast, Project Mooncircle, Robox Neotech, Tokyo Dawn Records, Numbers, Black Acre, Fremdtunes (to name just a few), are pushing this new mutant sound forward delivering many surprises and consistent, solid quality along the way. Of course one should not make a mistake of perceiving music only via geographical location of the artists or labels, because such distinctions do not work anymore. Which was nicely commented by Low Limit from Lazer Sword on his twitter recently: “a lot of these journalists/blog can't listen to music out of context of the artists' location, & the geographical assumptions along with it. tell me what it sounds like not what it you'd assume it sounds like given the place it was made. ill make footwork in a barn in idaho fukit” Ha ha ha – how true! Music is a global thing now, but I still believe that some local mentality, upbringing, sensitivity and setting in which you create your works of art also plays a substantial role in the total scheme. Ok, enough of this. Let's move to the verdict. And the winners are ...:
The sexiest debut of 2010. Sex on the Airplane, Mozambique, Wonky Bikez or Linguistics will be my all-time-favorites for many years to come, I'm positive. A top-notch release full of the best future beats by a super talented producer from Germany. Since the first time I came across the work of Joachim Pruegl at the end of 2009, I really felt his potential, but I've still been surprised with his stellar debut. He has instantly catapulted himself to my personal top German producers league next to the mighty Robot Koch.
I could not decide which release should I name my best release of 2010. I decided to present two prizes, another top first prize goes to the powerful, crazy and twisted synths of Brighton's wizz-kid whose EP ruled in my player in the first half of 2010. Slugabed makes no mistakes, takes no hostages and is merciless. More praise in my review above.
Great, dark, deep and moving electronic trips by Lorn who released one the best album of 2010 in Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder. In this case, I personally believe that the pupil outgrew the master. I like Nothing Else better than IMHO a bit overhyped Flying Lotus' Cosmogramma. (Now, try something different. Listen to a nice mixtape produced by Lorn with Lefty aka the L.E.F.T. rapping to the beat from Nothing Else - Lefty aka L.E.F.T Kill the Messenger)
This is what I wrote in my review on glitch.fm “a cluster bomb of deconstructed sonic mayhem which will create havoc on any dancefloor from Paris to New York and L.A. Their music is about party and rave, about breaking the necks, setting bodies on fire in a digital dancefloor bonanza of purity-defying electro lazer assualt. This may sound bombastic, but for me Lazer Sword epitomizes the future of EDM, where hip hop swagger meets post-disco and funky beat, while all end up in a heavy-bass soup spiced up with tons of crunky synths, sick samples, ear-catching cut-ups, bleeps, beeps and whatnot.” Read to rest to learn why I believe this EP to be a motherfucking future party slammer! And why I have been feeding my Car’s sound system with it for months.
Second full-length release (along with the earlier Listen to Them Fade EP) by the most famous Robot from Berlin has solidified his position among top world producers. I love his unique style of button pressing and fat multi-track sonic textures he creates so consistently and skillfully. His vintage sound works equally well in his own productions as in collaborations with other artists (e.g. great tunes with Doshy and 1000Names). Again, on this release we receive great vocal tracks - Verbal Bruises with Portable Morla and Brujeria with Graciela Maria are among the best, next to Atari You featuring a great emcee from Poland – RQM (who have been part of the Berlin mafia for years). For real, there are not many artists on electronic music scene with such a vision and craft. RESPECT! Peeps from USofA should watch out as Robot Koch is going on a tour across the States in February 2011. Good news is he is working on many projects at the moment, thus we have a guaranteed delivery of superb beats also in 2011.
Chip tune, 8-bit, wonky perverted button bonanza of top class by the Lord of All Pixels – one of the freshest, most original and experimental releases of the year! Hooked me instantly into beats from Russia, which became a real goldmine of fresh sounding electronic music.
The almighty set of absolutely smashing 6 CD’s released to celebrate 20th anniversary of one of the most respected and forward-looking labales on the planet. A MUST for any open-minded music lover. List of artists featured is simply ridiculous!
The best remix compilation of 2010! Democracy, Rudi Zygadlo, Pixelord, Halp & Coco Bryce, Monky, Lakritze, Zeno and Doshy himself plus other remixers deliver a super package adding their creative personal touch to very good original material. I wrote in my review: "Robox Neotech is THE LABEL OF THE FUTURE. Trust my werd! Music they serve is soooo refreshing, mind-boggling, full of this kinky, bleepy, twisted lazers and sick beats, dipped in hard to describe RAW, post-industrial spices. Future beats attacking the listener with full force, engaging all your senses and making your wetware circuitry go high high high with liquid, digital emotions. Just listen to the latest offering from Robox Neotech - Scatter Remixes EP. I liked the the original EP by Doshy a lot, but these remixes really made my jaw drop low low low". Read the rest above.
Definitely, the best release from Poland this year (closely followed by Teielte's Homeworkz). Intelligent, mesmerizing and enchanting dub music! A fragment of my review: All five original tracks by ptr1 create a very concrete block of bass-friendly music with absolutely mesmerizing melodies. I listen to tons of electronic productions, coming across tracks showing very good production skills, yet missing one extremely important component - namely soul. Whereas ptr1 has a rare gift enabling him to squeeze beautiful emotions out of the cold analog and digital tools. Just listen to Cold, my personal highlight of the release, this tune reaches deep deep inside my neural structure touching right nerves and proving once again why humans has loved music for millenia
Another great remix compilation showcasing talents from across the world. Car Crash Set prepared a fat selection of of remixes of tracks taken from "Silkworm" EP by bass-trio Planet Soap from Milan, Italy (released in September 2010). Coming out of nowhere for some, but definitely not for the regular readers of my blog, as "After Silkworm" features the works of many of my favorite producers on the beat scene. Read the rest in my review above.
Great, full-length album on Black Acre by this Bulgarian duo was one of the biggest surprises this year for me. I heard their previous releases but it was Illuminated Man that has really won me over. I like a kind of consistent, spacey flow to their music in which they throw tons of different bleeps and beeps, outstanding synths or great drums mixing succesffully IDM with post-Dilla hip-hop beats. Such tunes like Haunted Landscapes, Secondary Fauna or Pocket Calculators, though of course reminding of the pioneering work of Flying Lotus, have this 'contemporary vibe' which I am into so much in music recently.
11. Honorable mentions. I can highly recommend any of the following releases:
Magnetic Man – Magnetic Man
Teielte – Homeworkz,
Lazer Sword - Lazer Sword LP,
Finest Ego – Russian Beat Maker Compilation,
Montgomery Clunk – Superbus EP,
Rusti – Sunburst EP,
Rudi Zygadlo – Great Western Laymen,
TAZ - Gold Tooth Grin
SRC - Gold Coinz
Redinho - Bare Blips
Actress – Splazsh,
Starkey - Ear Drums and Black Holes,
Alex B - Moments,
Guttstar – Battery Hues EP,
Sedge Warbler – Welcome to the Universe,
Ben Samples – Choose your own adventure,
Bil Bless – the life mechanisms vol. 2,
Dusk Ensemble – Dusk Ensemble,
Mount Kimbie - Crooks & Lovers,
Illum Sphere - Titan EP
Mexican Singer/Songwriter Graciela Maria has cooperated with Robot Koch on a few of his stunning releases, and Brujeria, the track featuring her beautiful vocal, was definitely one of the best tunes last year for me. They started performing together across the world and now the time has come to release her debut. Robot Koch teamed up with friend and fellow musician Sneaky (Fingathing / Ninja Tune) and judging by the first track Through The Night off the forthcoming full lenght Many Places by Graciela Maria (which you can download for free via bandcamp), they did a wonderful job, creating reach sonic textures, pulsating with joyful energy and forming amazing basis for Graciala Maria vocals to thrive on. I am really anxious to put my hands and ears on all 10 tracks of Many Placesto be released on Project Mooncircle at the end of January.
I really respect people who are able to laugh at themselves and make me laugh in the process :) Th' Mole has the skill. Apart from being a really nice and cool dude, he is a very entertaining performer and producer. Listen to this diss song and sing-a-long ha ha ha.
Mocking lyrics on bandcamp page will definitely help. Here is a short snippet :)
goddamn, mole, haven't you ever heard of good music? ..maybe you should try and do it. . cause yours sucks - it's not even hip hop - it's poppycock - you better make that shit stop. .you love unicorns? i'd love to see you im- paled on one - you're a failure, son. . you got a song called how to be cool but if you really want to be cool you'll kill yourself, mole
... and don't forget to check a more 'serious' production from Th'Mole - I Love Unicorns maxi single, with remixes by Robot Koch (as usual, great synths!!!!), The Flying Skulls and Fietboer plus the psychedelic gibberish banger Shocky Guy Go. You'll understand better (i think) all those unicorn references above :)

10. Green Lantern feat. Ward 21 (Reverse Engineering Remix)
11. Johnny Blaze feat. Turbulence (Filewile Remix)
12. Johnny Blaze feat. Turbulence (King Aron Remix)
Last year, four Swiss brothers from Talen released a couple of EP's - New York Book and Kingston Book featuring heavyweights Sizzla, Cutty Ranks and underground legends Oddatee and Sensational. BBC1's host Mary Anne Hobbs took notice and dropped the debut on her show - positioning Talen amidst the cream of the Bass scene.
December, 13th 2011 they return with another heaavvvvvvyyy EP - The Comic Book on Mouthwatering Records. The EP features the vocal talent of Lady Saw,Turbulence and Ward 21. A real bomb of future Dancehall meets hard to categorize mutant electronica with remix duty handled by the Bass mafia international: Stereotyp, Kalbata, Robot Koch, Reverse Engineering, Son Of Kick, Filewile, I-Wolf and King Aron.
Out of the originals, Green Lantern is my favorite - extremely infectious dancehall riddim featuring Jamaican super sound system crew Ward 21 with great guitar samples, pumping beat and totally uplifiting synths. I feel anthem and banger of epic proportions in this one! Bass Mafia did an outstanding job with remixes. Robot Koch's refix of Johnny Blaze liquified me to pieces with his cold, glitched-up bassline, while fantastic drums and ultra deep subs with tons of delays in Kalbata's remix of Batgirl changed the original into psychedelic tribal monster (free download below!) Son of Kick properly treated Talen's work with dubstep, while Stereotyp's tune is simply off-the-hook. Silly beat par excellence! I love it :)) The rest is equally good, trust my werd.
Check your retailers next Monday (13 December) to grab this top class dancehall electro shizzle on 12" and in digital format. Really refreshing and inspiring package.
Interesting mixes have been accumulating on my hard drive incessantly, now is the time to share some of them with my readers. I highly recommend checking all of them - they are creme de la creme, the best part, and just a small fraction of what I listen to daily :)) Most of the tracklist at the bottom of the stage "after the jump".
Let's start from some serious mind-boggling beatz served by Project Mooncircle in their Neumond (New Moon) podcast - Episode 2. Project Mooncircle is one of the best, most eclectic, versatile, open-minded labels out there, their podcasts are quality, as a rule! This episode gives you an insight of upcoming or latest releases and is crowned by interviews with Robot Koch, Dday One & Jinna Morocha. The show includes new exclusive tunes of fLako, Daisuke Tanabe, Ichiro_, Pavel Dovgal, Pixelord (Error Broadcast), Comfort Fit, Robot Robinson, Ital Tek, Graciela Maria, Killing Skills, Sense Of The Q4, Sotu The Traveller, Kan Sano, Glen Porter, DZA, John Robinson and the Finest Ego + Cosmopolyphonic compilation etc.
XLII and Broken Haze aka Raid System with November's show for Rhythm Incursions. As usual - super eclectic selection of heavy-bass, funky & stomping beats covering very broad range of music from e.g. Siriusmo or Bomb Zombies through Lazer Sword, Sub Swara, Kraddy to Halp (Leek is a f...g monster of the tune!!!), Skrillex, Terror Danjah, Powel, Girl Unit and BD1982. I would definitely want to see them performing live and driving the the crowd mad. They know how to do it.
Pressha from Seattle delivers a mix for Simplify Recordings which is full of smashing tunes by the hottest midtempo / glitch hop producers, incl. Samples, Marty Paryt, Mimosa, Knight Riderz, Mattb and tons of Love & Light tracks. For me, personally the absolute highlight of this mix (as well as Acid Crunk vol. 3 comp) is Dirty Money - by An-Ten-Nae f. Soom T. What a beautiful riddim!!!!! Pressha has a unique gift of mixing quite a hard stuff into super funky, ass-shaking ride skilfully balancing hard stomp vs. softer touch. IMHO his best mix up-to-date. Highly recommended for any fan of modern heavy bass music!!!
More midtempo bonanza in a mix by Psymbionic, who apart from being a producer and DJ, co-runs a very successful blog. Bwom Beats crew writes about the 2nd installment in their mix series: "This is a juicy mixtape that is 1/3 purple crunk lovestep, 1/3 glitch hop, and 1/3 dubstep by our own Psymbionic. What starts off slow and sexy soon drops you into a heavy boomer of a mix that will make you swoon and/or grab your nuts. John has been honing his style and styling his sounds since coming onboard and has definitely dialed in a good one so far. The mix has a lot of primo stuff from a lot of upcoming producers, so check this one out." Agree 100%. Don't sleep on this mix peeps.
Look out for upcoming remixes by Psymbionic for Ben Samples (Daly City Records) and Mindelixer (Abstract Logic Recordings). Tour dates can be found at http://psymbionicmusic.com/
Glitch hop / dubstep gonzo - Ben Samples in a special live set at the 3 Year Anniversary of Denver Bass Squad. You know what's the score :) Liquid, heavy, distorted bass, tons of sick synths, and serious head-nodding bizniz! A MUST! The mix was exclusively featured on a new blog covering similar music niche as yours truly's blog. Go check Sub-synthesis to mine for some midtempo, lazer, crunky goodies.
Beats, beats and more mutant beats in a second podcast for glitch-hop.pl site by Nino, hailing from Barcelona, Spain. Shlohmo, Swede:Art, Robot Koch, Mweslee, HudMo or sick remix by Slugabed of Melkeveien vs. Niño's tune Yo!. What else can you wish from a good mix :) Highly recommended by Doktor Krank.
And now something slightly different. Change of tempo and heavier slabs of sub-bass in straight-in-yer-face mix by the champion of dubstep sound, DJ and Producer, Miss Carly-D from Oakland, USofA.
This is a set that was recorded live at GruntWorthy Wednesdays on November 17th 2010. It's about 50% Dubstep, 40% West Coast Purple Future Bass, 10% Drumstep. 100% Sexy. Sit back, relax, & enjoy the aural frequencies. :) Features tracks by Carly-D, Dr.Knobz, Doug Surreal, DCarls, Stephan Jacobs, +Verb, Sugarpill, Samples, Subscape, Phear Phace, Kill Paris, Shredexx, Brent Still LIfe, Kito & Vaccine, Rob Sparx, Skism, Doctor P, Nit Grit, NastyNasty, Gangwarz, Obsidian, Ruckus & Roke, JMagic & Wickaman, Stylust Beats, ChrisB, Ceeker, Pendulum, Rob Swire, Bassnectar, Willy Whompa, & Alexandre.
La, la, la, la la funky la la la la. Soft, warm, melting soul electronica from Souelance, i.e. a combo of French producers Soulist and Fulgeance. Vintage sound from vintage mix series. Each and every La Mixette is booooming and unique. Apart from downloading this fresh mixtape, I highly recommend checking La Mixette back catalog on Musique Large. TIP!
I hope you managed to get to this point of my post, where I will present the last mix for today. BARTEL's music has been described as haunting, yet melodic; down-tempo, yet driving. Swelling ambient soundscapes meet with deep glitch cuts, while a dub sensibility keeps it all sounding like a distant memory. More to the the point, the Bartel aesthetic explores the intersection between ultra-modern synthesis, location recording, and experimental sound design; encouraging an approach to song writing which is both technical and cinematic. Bartel has presented their work in a live setting all over North America
Bartel did a promo mix to promote a forthcoming show with Babe Rainbow (WARP) and Vincent Parker from Canada. The mix features such artists as Fulgeance (in a great Hueas remix), Vincet Parker (great remix by homies from Australia - Blunt Instruments, Babe Rainbow, Acidwolf, Raime, and Bartel himself. Great synth-driven electronic trip, worth your time and ears.

WOW! So many great names on the future beatz scene featured in one album which can be downloaded for FREE!! RUN VIE compilation is the ABSOLUTE MUST for any beat headz out there! The music quality is much more than average for this type of comp. RUN VIE is a festival taking place in Vienna, Austria at the beginning of October. Shit, I wish I was there - actually it's not so far from my hometown (a mere 700km). I have to seriously consider the trip. Robot Koch, fLako, Swede:art, Dorian Concept, 1000 Names, Free the Robots, Aloe Blacc - what more can you desire to reach a sonic orgasm! (some artists performing at the festival that did not make it to the comp incl. Comfort Fit, Derrick May, BLU). But the real discovery on RUN VIE for me personally are tunes by the German hip-hop duo JR&PH7, in particular Let's move feat. Skyzoo in The Clonius remix. Never heard of them and I believe I have to catch up fast with their discography. Grab this gem and let your body Moooooooooooooooooove.
A beautiful collaboration between Robot Koch and Boxcutter in Ital Tek remix, taken from the forthcoming Robot Koch's LP: "Songs For Trees And Cyborgs" which should drop at the begining of October 2010. I strongly suspect this Autumn 2010 to be super ripe with great releases!
Oh boy, what a treat. One of the best American producers Alex B remixes the track by my personally best producer on the electronic music scene - Robot Koch. The final outcome must be epic! Just listen to these synths - mind smashing, twisted eruption of dark beauty riding on a heavy bass with lotsa lotsa noise in the bacground. The perfect combination and a fantastic tool for office fitness, can't even sit properly on my ass and my head makes spastic, jerking moves which my fellow corporate co-slaves observe with a mixture of contempt and concern for my psychical health. F''k'em! This tune is too good not to be experienced full-bodily. Devil Drums is a track, from the forthcoming Friends of Friends Volume 3, Other producers on this complilation include Mexicans with Guns, Salva, King Cannibal, Lunice, Mux Mool, and Free the Robots. Can't wait to hear this stuff (release date: October 5).
On May 7th, my favorite beatmaker Robot Koch released Listen to them Fade EP (Project Mooncircle). One of the kind, vintage electronica, where dreamy female vocal meets strange sound samples, surfing through the multi-layered, moody compositions to the accompaniment of constantly tempo-changing breaks and totally sick drums and pads (Brujeria, Like Rain). This time analog and organic sounds seems to win the battle with machine keyboards and the result of their fight, the twisted, dark but very very lively beat and dubby vibe has connected with my emotions instantly! This is the record to be fully immersed into, rich with mind flavors and archaic, tribal goodness. As usual in case of innovative style of Robot Koch, this music is hard to describe and extremely versatile, but the artist managed perfectly to keep the entire 6-piece concise and complete. Though I can spot my personal highlights - Brujeria with oneiric singing by Grace and pulsating, dubby bassline which has been on a constant repeat in my player for a month or other-dimensional, trippy True riding on a squashed beat - this is the release to be digested in full from the first unsettling notes of the title track to the surreal sonic jam in Now. Listen to them Fade has been directly influenced by 2 months spent by Robot Koch in Mexico, where he collaborated again with a very talented Mexican singer Grace. I hope they will continue their successfull cooperation in a similarly inspiring environment and the results will be even more astonishing in the full-length album by Robot Koch to drop on Project Mooncircle in October this year. Can't wait!!
