PLANET SOAP - VELVET HE1

The Italian duo Planet Soap, consisting of Federico "dsm" Monguzzi and Luca "Spectrum" De Giuli, has released today a new EP - "VELVET HE1" on vinyl and in digital format on the French label Cascade Records. This is quite an eclectic selection of contemporary bass music exploring various music genres such as jungle, garage, techno, wonky, nu-beatz or dubstep, dipped in a cosmic sauce. Starting from fantastic and breathtaking, neon synth laden 'Rhynostatic', an ultimate crowdpleaser which would even make your mom dance :) Through my favorite tune of this EP - 'I'm approaching you tonight' reminding me of the spacefaring productions by the Russian duo Demokracy (actually, Planet Soap has released a super duper evil EP with Damscracy from Democracy under the nickname of Planet Terror) and more stomping cosmic beats in 'SYFY' and 'Virus' to jungle experiments in 'Thrialine'. The title track 'Velvet He1' takes the listener on a deep-space sonic trip, where you can meet an 8-bit 'Alien from KooleYay' playing on his nintendo to the friends. Classic techno 'Vectorama' sounds old-schoolish, but thanks to the all-time classic sample and good button work delivers quite a powerful experience. All in all Planet Soap has managed to create their unique sound, though comprising elements you all probably heard many times in the past. Definitely worth checking.

Illum Sphere - Remixed (Fat City)

Oh YES! A super hot release is on its way. Illum Sphere - Remixed, to be published on Fat City label at the beginning of May, by Manchester's psycho beatz don Illum Sphere will feature remixes by some of my favorite producers, i.e. kidkanevil, om unit, ikonika and dabrye. Can't wait to grab a copy! I am even thinking about dusting off my vinyl decks from my basement :). Being a big fan of originals, I'm really excited to see, in particular kidkanevil and om unit superbly doing their remixing duties. Weird beats with a hint of oldschool jungle breaks and juke'ish drums (kidkanevil) or great melodic, cosmic boogey trip (omunit) really do the trick for me. Don't sleep on this peeps. It's a MUST!

PS. Om Unit will be a special guest at the U Know Me record release party in Warsaw next Saturday (28th April). Be there or ....

Robox Neotech - 35 FREE TUNES vol. 1 (2009-2011)

Huuuuuge package of free tunes courtesty of forward looking German label Robox Neotech is up for grabs at their bandcamp. This is absolutely the MUST for any fan of intelligent contemporary beatz. For years Robox Neotech has been putting out quality mutant music, introducing to the masses great beatmakers like P-Fang, Cryptical, Demokracy or Planet Terror, releasing wicked tunes by NastyNasty, +verb, Stagga, Lakritze, Doshy, Powell or Monky. They were always generous with free gifts to their listeners and now collected all of them into one gigantic package. Highly recommended by Doktor Krank!

Pixelord Remixed

A Russian label Hyperboloid Records has released a very nice collection of 10 powerful remixes of Pixelord's tunes accumulated over some span of time from the label's friends. My favorites include an amazing synth-laden, neon banger by Naive Machine, an off-kilter, straight in your face beat in 813's remake of Keramika or lo-fi 8-bit remix of Iron and Cream by Kuhn. All in all a very solid release. Not to be missed!

New beatz new kicks f. +verb, exit!, liar, daniel savio, piotrus pan, souleance, tom encore & paszczak.

I'm back from a short hiatus caused by a nasty viral infection. These small microbes are getting stronger and stronger and produce even weirder and unexpected effects (sigh). I have accumulated tons of music in the meantime, I just throw a bunch of links for you to check. Some really good stuff in here.

Spacey, sonic landscape like no other in Liar's Origami Bound from his latest, amazing EP - Undance. I LOVE this tune.

Teielte - Wooden Love EP

DOKTOR KRANK'S RELEASE OF THE MONTH

Wooden Love EP by Teielte, released by a very energetic and eclectic label U Know Me Records is the best what Polish glitchy / mutant / funky nu beat scene can offer right now and on top of that a vinyl has a form of most beatiful picture disc. Hurry, there are only 300 pieces of this masterpiece available. U KNOW U WANT THIS! Check e.g. Asphalt Shophhv.de or juno.co.uk and grab a copy.

I'm really proud we have such artists in Poland, producing top quality stuff and fully aware of the direction in which they want to develop their music. Since his debut album, Homeworkz (read my review here) Teielte has grown and matured beyond my expectations. Wooden Love includes six very solid, immaculately produced and fantastically arranged compositions. Every second is fully packed with tasty, vibrant sound, broken drums and highly addictive beat. The artist takes care of every detail, and what is a trademark of his style - pays great attention to all background samples, bleeps and beeps. There are no fillers here, just the essence of intelligent contemporary electronica. Synth-laden, neon Selcouth and banger par excellence Dont (a collaboration with Daniel Drumz another hot name from U Know Me roster) have already become major hits, while Tripf, Easy and Fire show the astonishing range of Teielte's inspirations and skills. Five originals are nicely supplemented by Liquid Molly's remix of Selcouth. A slow-burning dub trip which squeezes even more power from neon synths of the original. For me personally, Wooden Love is the best release this year (so far) not only in Poland but also across the world. Highly recommended by Doktor Krank.

Sector7G - Apocalypse Nigh Mix

Posting of Sector7G mixes has become a permanent feature on my blog. This DJ, hailing from Athens (Ohio) has music taste nearly perfectly aligned with mine. The selection in his latest Apocalypse Nigh set covers the majority of my personal best artists and productions of 2011 on nu beat / West Coast / heavy bass / post hip-hop scene. From e.g. Dimlite, Young Montana? and Mussck through Slugabed, Motem and Coco Bryce to Kramfphaft, Dailon, Fancy Mike or Damscray and much much more, this is a 2-hour sonic orgy of the best that ingelligent, contemporary electronic music could offer in 2011. Best mix this year so far. Highly recommended!

Jakub Nox Ambroziak - Dark Side of the Sun

Jakub Nox Ambroziak - Dark Side of the Sun
Released: 18 January 2012
Tracklist:
1. Inarritu
2.Dark Side of the Sun
3.Hole [ft. Kinta]
4.Solar System
5.Grey Sun [ft. Ailo]
6.Erse
7.Treebeard in the Dead Wood

Jakub Nox Ambroziak, a talented Polish beatmaker, has recently released an interesting album "Dark Side of the Sun", mastered by one of the leading hip-hop / beat producers in Poland - Noon. The sound is fat and simply perfect! Nox explores dark sonic territories, heavily laden with mind-twisting voice samples, moving from enchanting downtempo tribal beats, like e.g. Inarritu or Dark Side of the Sun, through trippy vocalizations on Hole, great spacey cosmic boogie of Solar System and more experimental joints of Grey Sun and Erse to my personal highligh of the release - Treebeard in the Dead Wood which could be used as a background music in any psychodelic session. All in all another solid release by a Polish producer. Highly recommended by Doktor Krank.

Nice Digipacks to be purchased for PLN 19 here: Jakub Nox Ambroziak - Dark Side of the Sun (Allegro).

King Deluxe Presents: Year One comp

One of my favorite providers of fresh music in 2011, a Canadian based label King Deluxe celebrates one year with the release of Year One compilation (in two parts). It includes a few highlights of quite a fruitful 12 months along with new interpretations by forward-thinking beatshmiths from across the globe including Fancy Mike, Ghost Mutt, Alphabets Heaven, I.D., Subp Yao, Option Command, Muta, Vaetxh, Acre and others. Stylistically this release offers diverse and wide-ranging beatz aesthetics with producers freely experimenting with sound, often quite successfully. This is not your typical easy-listening, ump ump sub sub UKG, Dubstep or Future Garage ting. Which is good, cause at the moment I'm really fed up with all this UK* scene. These tracks require some effort on the part of the listener, but trust me - you will be rewarded in the end :) If I am to name a few higlights I'd include: a fantastic Subp Yao's remix of equally great Aether by I.D., Zack Christ's angry, off-kilter refix of Aleph's Sulphozinum or Ghost Mutt's uplifting remix of Alphabets Heaven's Woman.  Don't hesitate peeps, grab this nice package, you won't be disappointed.

SATURATED! VOL. 2 (STRTLP002)

Ha! A very, very nice Christmas gift from my personal Label of the Year. Saturate Records has just released the second V.A. compilation showcasing the works by talented producers from across the globe (though mainly from the Old Continent) under one common denominator - Super Quality Beatz in Abundance. If you are wondering what directions, paths or angles the nu beatz / twisted hip-hop / experimental dance music scene will follow next year, in Saturated! VOL 2 you'll find fine examples. Just listen to the tracks on this compilation and you'll catch the vibe. My personal highlights include, among others, mind-bending tunes by oneone, Subp Yao & Bios, Racoon X, Phokus & Grapes, Microburst or Kijk Een Ster. Never heard of them ?? Time to catch up with the names, 2012 will belong to them. Definitely, one of the best releases this year!!!! Highly recommended by Doktor Krank.

Grab it on Pay-What-You-Want basis through bandcamp.

Jeremiah Jae - Rappayamatantra EP (Brainfeeder)

JEREMIAH JAE
RAPPAYAMATANTRA EP (Brainfeeder)
Release Date: March 22, 2011

1. The Dirty Collector Pt. 1
2. Kings Bop
3. Guns Go Off (Remix)
4. $easons
5. Raw Tape$
6. Vertical Pupils
7. Stones Passage
8. Glitter Kit

Once in a while I come across the stuff escaping all classifications, hard-to-digest, demanding but delivering quite a unique experience. But it is exceptionally hard to write a few critical sentences about the actual 'songs' I heard in this parituclar case. Rappayamatantra EP, to be dropped March, 22 on the Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label is the debut (if one does not count self-released Dxcne EP which not many people had a chance to listen to probably) by Jeremiah Jae, 21-year old producer and rapper from Chicago whose speciality seems to be serious beatscooking. Yes, his music is cooky, avantgarde, lo-fi trip in the best tradition of plunderphonics (in particular in tracks like The Dirty Collector pt. 1 reminding me of the works of champions of this sound - Negativeland). A patchowork of fantastic strange samples, off-the-beat, mutant hip-hop sonic textures with weird rhyming and vocalizations, experimental jazz improvisations overstretched beyond any limits, synthetizers playing creepy melodies, often mutating into spastic chaos or downright silly rhymes. Actualy, well-controlled chaos rules the music work of Jeremiah Jae, and though this type of experimental, sample based, cut-up approach to production process is nothing exceptional or new, this guy - while drawing inspiration from so many sources - has a rare ability of putting all these pieces into one nearly coherent whole. I really admire his bravery thanks to which he has created a very personal work of art which he nonetheless shares very willingly with the listeneres delivering quite a unique experience. My personal highlights of this EP incl. Seasons and Raw Tapes - probably most accessible and traditional tracks in the set plus totally off-kilter Glitter Kit. This is not an easy music, you would not dance your ass  off to the beat, definitely you would not be able to chill out he he, but I encourage you to give it a try. Such an impressive music erudition at such a young age does not surprise if one learns that his father was a musical director for Miles Davis in the late years of Davis's career and his mother sang gospel. Later this year, Brainfeeder will release Jeremiah Jae's full length Raw Money Raps and I will be eagerly awaiting more weird stuff from this cooky wizardy
Jeremiah Jae visited Poland a few days ago playing together with another heavy weight beatsmith from Brainfeeder roster - Teebs. I couldn't make it (I really really wish I was there) and I believe he gave one-of-the-kind performance...
