PLANET SOAP - VELVET HE1

The Italian duo Planet Soap, consisting of Federico "dsm" Monguzzi and Luca "Spectrum" De Giuli, has released today a new EP - "VELVET HE1" on vinyl and in digital format on the French label Cascade Records. This is quite an eclectic selection of contemporary bass music exploring various music genres such as jungle, garage, techno, wonky, nu-beatz or dubstep, dipped in a cosmic sauce. Starting from fantastic and breathtaking, neon synth laden 'Rhynostatic', an ultimate crowdpleaser which would even make your mom dance :) Through my favorite tune of this EP - 'I'm approaching you tonight' reminding me of the spacefaring productions by the Russian duo Demokracy (actually, Planet Soap has released a super duper evil EP with Damscracy from Democracy under the nickname of Planet Terror) and more stomping cosmic beats in 'SYFY' and 'Virus' to jungle experiments in 'Thrialine'. The title track 'Velvet He1' takes the listener on a deep-space sonic trip, where you can meet an 8-bit 'Alien from KooleYay' playing on his nintendo to the friends. Classic techno 'Vectorama' sounds old-schoolish, but thanks to the all-time classic sample and good button work delivers quite a powerful experience. All in all Planet Soap has managed to create their unique sound, though comprising elements you all probably heard many times in the past. Definitely worth checking.

Son of Kick - From Here EP + WIN TICKETS to Son of Kick's gig in Warsaw on Nov 10

Son of Kick  comes from West London and has become a permanent feature on a map of London heavy bass scene. His crazy live performances and multi-instrumentalist skills made him famous across the globe. Fans in Poland had a chance to experience his absolutely stunning live set at this year's Audioriver Festival in Płock. Thousands of people in Hybrid Tent went totally mental! He has released a few singles and great videos like e.g. Guacha, Playing the Villain or Revolution B for Way Way, Muti or Botchit and Scarper, plus several sick remixes. A few days ago Son of Kick released another killing EP - From Here featuring psychic vocals of a Polish emcee RQM (currently residing in Berlin and a part of the infamous Berlin's Bass Maffia) and a set of heavy-weight remixers including: Pixelord, Rose Ryot and Night Drugs. The original From Here is a beautiful hybrid of psycho lyrical vocalizations by RQM, heavy drops, sick synths and whatnot happening in the background of this crowd-pleasing anthem. Rose Ryot offers an off-kilter, low-key refix with seriously distorted voice samples and quite weird, slow-burning beat accompanied by sick drums. Really mental tune. One of my favorite producer, Pixelord is more merciful changing the original into uplifting 2-step / future garage trip, with his trademark 8-bit synths hitting hard in the middle of the track. Dreamy and enchanting. Night Drugs definitely aims at peak of the night dancefloor experience in his smoothly rolling, party-oriented, heavy bass remix with stomping beat and talking synths. All in all From Here is a kind of release I'd like to see coming more from heavy bass / dubstep camp - superbly produced, versatile, open-minded, very catchy and entertaining. Highly recommended by Doktor Krank!!

iL - apoLLo1ne3hree

Error Broadcast has just released a fascinating debut by the young producer from the US. iL's apoLLo1ne3hree EP is one of the most interesting and inspiring works I've heard in a while. Digesting this stuff took some time, but it was definitely worth it!

iL comes from Illinois and has a very peculiar and unique method of self expression, I must say. He produces heavily squashed, cut-up beats, patching weird and defragmented sound samples together as if by a hand of blind Chaos Magician practicing the art of making powerful audio sigils, creating a kind of swirling and nigthmarish stream of consciousness. I yet have to decide whether he is defending himself against his inner demons or whether he tries to attract innocent souls to his demonic world :) He goes far off the beaten track in the process, even for the beatz scene which is full of brave explorers of uncharted soundscapes. A listener versed in contemporary beat music will discover many familiar traits, from ambient, RnB or post-garage to Lucky-Me type of soulful dubs, but as a whole the listening experience is really one of the kind. Though this may not seem the case at the first hearing, iL mixes all the short pieces very craftily and skilfully delivering very individual and mature compositions. I appreciate artists following their own path, in particular when this path is not easy to sell to the general public. In the end such an approach will always payback in good fortune and respect. Enthusiastic reviews and opinions of iL's EP in the blogosphere seem to prove this. Naming highlights of this release makes no sense, this is the work of art to be digested end-to-end. Highly recommended by Doktor Krank!

Russian beatmakers are unstoppable. They are young, talented and bring their unique sensitivity and 'soul' to the contemporary electronic music. They don't care about fashion and hype which is quite prevalent also in non-mainstram music nowadays (see: future garage or uk funky I am really fed up with at the moment), they simply do their thing. 19-year old (sic!), Feodor Pereverzev from Moscow, a.k.a. Moa Pillar is the prime example of this new wave of fascinating artists from Russia. He has just released a fantastic The Moon and Thunder Dance EP on the new Russian imprint G5 Music (part of the respected Gimme5 community), supported worldwide by the American Alpha Pup Records.

Many of you probably heard Water Lilly - one of the biggest anthems and bangers and one of my personal top tracks of 2010. When I first heard this tune I felt as if someone had slapped me in the face and then pushed me off the cliff. But I did not crash. On the contrary, this was a great flight! The raw power of Moa Pillar's sonic assault instantly increased my interest in music made in Russia tenfold. Though other tracks do not attack the listener with equally brute and beautiful force, this EP proves that Moa Pillar like no other artist can very skilfully combine regional, ethnic soundscape with ultra modern heavy bass & mutant beatz, creating synth-driven compositions, weaving through the listener's mind like good stories told by old shamans at the fireworks in the dark woods. I feel particularly attuned to this feeling of atavistic yearning and archaic undercurrent richly distributed in Moa Pillar's music, as in enchanting Red in Rainbow or Flying Low. Such soulful moments are so sorely missing from the music I hear nowadays, that I cannot remove a big smile from my face. Female vocals in Heama with fantastic, spacey synth improvisations simply turn me on! Lake Mystery starts like a typical oriental, arabic song to suddenly twist into cut-up ethnic chants with lots of beautiful bleeps and bits in the background building up to absolutely mesmerizing trip! As in the case of many artists from Eastern Europe I heard recently I really wonder how come such youngsters are able to produce such a mature music?

For years, I've been a strong adherent of Entheogenic Reformation in oppossition to the Pharmacratic Inquisition we face daily in our fucked up reality and my mind is really satisfied listening to such a beautiful, modern yet archaic and in the end - psychedelic stuff. We all know the stories of Siberian shamans, don't we? This is the music these wizards would definitely incorporate in their ceremonies with ease :))

I am deeply sorry, for my far too-long stream of consciousness, but somehow this music has inspired me to creative (I hope) writing which unfortunately you have been now exposed to... Anyway, check this music and let yourself be attracted to the tribal world of Mr. Moa Pillar:

Apart from great music content, this EP shows more amazing talents, as the artwork by Hargi Csik & Erik Kirtley is the best thing in this department I've seen in months! Simple but extremely effective and emotional, the way I like :)

You better memorize the name of G5 Music, this imprint has more amazing music from Russia in the pipeline. Moa Pillar's is just the beginning, trust my werd!

Once in a while I come across the stuff escaping all classifications, hard-to-digest, demanding but delivering quite a unique experience. But it is exceptionally hard to write a few critical sentences about the actual 'songs' I heard in this parituclar case. Rappayamatantra EP, to be dropped March, 22 on the Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label is the debut (if one does not count self-released Dxcne EP which not many people had a chance to listen to probably) by Jeremiah Jae, 21-year old producer and rapper from Chicago whose speciality seems to be serious beatscooking. Yes, his music is cooky, avantgarde, lo-fi trip in the best tradition of plunderphonics (in particular in tracks like The Dirty Collector pt. 1 reminding me of the works of champions of this sound - Negativeland). A patchowork of fantastic strange samples, off-the-beat, mutant hip-hop sonic textures with weird rhyming and vocalizations, experimental jazz improvisations overstretched beyond any limits, synthetizers playing creepy melodies, often mutating into spastic chaos or downright silly rhymes. Actualy, well-controlled chaos rules the music work of Jeremiah Jae, and though this type of experimental, sample based, cut-up approach to production process is nothing exceptional or new, this guy - while drawing inspiration from so many sources - has a rare ability of putting all these pieces into one nearly coherent whole. I really admire his bravery thanks to which he has created a very personal work of art which he nonetheless shares very willingly with the listeneres delivering quite a unique experience. My personal highlights of this EP incl. Seasons and Raw Tapes - probably most accessible and traditional tracks in the set plus totally off-kilter Glitter Kit. This is not an easy music, you would not dance your ass  off to the beat, definitely you would not be able to chill out he he, but I encourage you to give it a try. Such an impressive music erudition at such a young age does not surprise if one learns that his father was a musical director for Miles Davis in the late years of Davis's career and his mother sang gospel. Later this year, Brainfeeder will release Jeremiah Jae's full length Raw Money Raps and I will be eagerly awaiting more weird stuff from this cooky wizardy

Jeremiah Jae visited Poland a few days ago playing together with another heavy weight beatsmith from Brainfeeder roster - Teebs. I couldn't make it (I really really wish I was there) and I believe he gave one-of-the-kind performance...

Isaiah Toothtaker - Illuminati Thug Mafia

Machina Muerte label in cooperation with Alpha Pup Records released a few days ago the notoriously good bass-heavy, devilish hip hop album Illuminati Thug Mafia by Isaiah Toothtaker - a rapper, tatoo master, street fighter (among other things) from Tuscon. Straight-in-yer face rhyming, foul language, brave beat mixed to create a powerful music shot for any music junkie looking for a quality fix. The legion of collaborators on this brilliant album ensures the variety and eclectic selection, you have no chance to be bored during the rough trip with your scary toothtaking host. Illuminati Thug Mafia is one of the best and interesting albums of 'canonical' hip hop I've heard for months. My personal highlights include:  Intruder, WTF You Say, Tantamout, Self Control (crazy synths!!! though Pink Floyd fans might have mixed feelings about this one ha ha), Unheard/Unseen (great beat and drums!), but the entire release is of top-notch quality.  Highly recommended by Doktor Krank!

A new beat label Jumble (powered by FUSElab team) released another gorgeous freebie!! Switzerland based AEED whom I remember from releases on Error Broadcast, dropped his new LP Titles full of short but powerful compositions. If I were to describe this album in one word, this would be: ELECTRIC! Constantly mutating, free-flowing dubby beat and great dynamics of each track plus 8-bit video game beeps and bleeps, glitchy bass and spacey melodies makes me want to stand up and dance in my office cubicle :) And Titles is a serious head-nodding business also, with nice vocal samples, broken beat and really interesting music tricks and solutions. The entire release is very tight and consistent, with absolutely top-notch production quality. Just listen to my personal highlight of the release, Orbitrip No Meta - a fantastic use of chiptune / 8-bit tools to create powerful, spacey Sci-Fi roller with amazing, talking synths. Music for Astronauts, for real! Other higlights include two beautiful tracks, namely Children of the Sun and Traveling People, with cut-up and mutated female vocals and enchanting melody lines.  Electricity Part 2, on the other hand reminds me of a kind of compositions Muslimgauze would produce today if he still lived to see the current reneissance of the beat scene. Pulsating with raw energy, fantastic Psychedelic March  or Under the Alps is the kind of future, twisted hip-hop beat I wish to hear more. I could continue in this vein, but you wouldn't probably read this anyway, ha ha. Trust my werd, thare are no weak spots on this fantastic release, Titles is one of the best records I've heard this year.

I am a big fan of Clubroot, Forensics and similar spacey bass wizards, and I've found the same vibes in beautiful, bass-deep sonic paintings on a very characteristics 2-step beat, conjured up by the soundmaster  ptr1 hailing from Płock, Poland  in his debut Above the Structures EP on the Polish label Concrete Cut Recordings. For me personally, this is one of the best Polish releases this year. Next to fantastic Homeworkz by Teielte, who btw did a very nice remix of ptr1's Cold on  this EP. One more remix in the pack was done by the Shoju duo, representing Concret Cut label - kudos for great synths!

All five original tracks by ptr1 create a very concrete block of bass-friendly music with absolutely mesmerizing melodies. I listen to tons of electronic productions, coming across tracks showing very good production skills, yet missing one extremely important component - namely soul. Whereas ptr1 has a rare gift enabling him to squeeze beautiful emotions out of the cold analog and digital tools. Just listen to Cold, my personal highlight of the release, this tune reaches deep deep inside my neural structure touching right nerves and proving once again why humans has loved music for millenia.  

Continuously seeking new forms of expression, producer, DJ, and sound engineer ptr1 has always loved to tinker with gear and experiment with programming. From his first instrumental hip-hop productions, to his work in the duo Kaosbreed, ptr1 has emerged with his own individual sound inspired by the deep textures and dusty, minimalist sound of old-school dubstep. ,

In Above the Structures ptr1 has embraced the inherent imperfections of analog gear opting for an organic approach to production. While his music is based on foggy, atmospheric layers, what finally emerges is ptr1’s talent for songwriting which lends itself equally to at-home headphones listening as it does to the dimly lit corners of a dubstep or techno after party.

The release has already garnered early support from such international DJs as Rob Booth [ElectronicExplorations], Crises [Rinse FM/Mindstep], BunZer0 [Sub FM], Cixxx J, and Whistla [Sub FM/L2S].

Robox Neotech is THE LABEL OF THE FUTURE. Trust my werd! Music they serve is soooo refreshing, mind-boggling, full of this kinky, bleepy, twisted lazers and sick beats, dipped in hard to describe RAW, post-industrial spices.  Future beats attacking the listener with full force, engaging all your senses and making your wetware circuitry go high high high with liquid, digital emotions. Just listen to the latest offering from Robox Neotech - Scatter Remixes EP. I liked the the original EP  by Doshy a lot, but these remixes really made my jaw drop low low low.

Super talented beatmakers from across the world, some of whom I have covered recently on my blog - including Rudi Zygadlo, Pixelord, Lakritze, Democracy,Halp & Coco Bryce, Monky, P45, Zeno and Doshy himself plus the rest of the robot gang (new to me), delivered a bass-heavy, lazerized, neon-synth bomb glittering with bold, fantastic ideas built on a stomping, ass-twisting beatz.

There is not a single weak track on this release, but at least a few masterpieces like Sunset's remix by Democracy which was the love from the first hearing a few weeks ago, it has probably the best synths I've heard this year. For real - just listen to them - it's a work of art! I want moar Democracy :) Halp & Coco Bryce brought the title track Scatter to yet another level of electro frenzy. Oh boy, they know how to handle their gear. Rudi Zygadlo's improvisations and vocal samples in Space Attack are top-class. Curtamos refixed Chip into slow-burning sub-bass monster, while Pixelord treated the same track with even more 8-bit chipness and great, overwhelming synths. Tip! Monky in his spacey remix and Zeno in a more drilling, angry rework of Chip did equally good job. Lakritze in his Battleship remix glitched up and slowed down the Space Attack to the max creating a brutal soundtrack to your worst nightmares. VIP version of Space Attack is simply amazing and in the package you will also get a few Doshy's collaborative tracks with a duo of French producers Esia (who is singing on Side on Music and Take Me) and Didjelirium. All proper quality again.

Robot Neotech with this release catapulted itself very high on my personal list of best labals out there. These dudes share like 99,99% of music taste with me!

New Brighton-based label Donky Pitch has hit the market with the avalanche of sick synthetizers and twisted basslines in their firest release - Donky Stomp EP featuring one of my favorite producers and the real master of sonic disaster - Slugabed (Ninja Tune / Planet Mu) accompanied by his homie Ghost Mutt.

Donky Stomp original by Slugabed is definitely one of the best tunes I've heard this year and just proves an immense talent of this Brighton boy, even though paradoxically this track is quite 'restraint' for him :). But he allows this beautiful, spacey and melodic composition to really 'play out', while of course building his 8-bit synth solos on a solid, heavy and glitchy sub-bass. Exactly the way I like it! A Spanish producer- Mweslee refixed Donky Stomp into more wonky and purple affair with the great use of vocal sample.

Ghost Mutt in his two tracks goes full force into neon dubstep territories, where heavy synths play the main role among 8-bit, Nintendo bleeps and pieces and heavy basslines. Platinum Skull is super solid, reminding me a bit of Starkey's work, but it is Thoroughbred that goes totally overboard with absolutely killing, colourful neon, post R'n'B extravaganza which should become a real hit on the dancefloors and in the mixes across the globe. All in all - a Vinyl / digital release YOU MUST NOT MISS! You better memorize the name of Donky Pitch - more great things to come from their camp for sure.

… What’s the Use …

Evil and darkness can hardly be more appealing than in the music produced by a mysterious whiz kid Lorn from Illinois, on his absolutely mind twisting debut Nothing Else released on 8 June 2010 on FlyLo’s Brainfeeder. Finally, after a few years in the making! It is a very peculiar collage of melancholy electronica, hypnotic beats and bleeps riding on a very diverse, enchanting synths which draw the listener into the bleached out world where sun never sets, because it has never had a chance to rise

This is the music to be fully immersed into; cutting deep into your neural system, at first threatening, scary and unnerving and then as if breaking an internal fuse set against this type of assault, it takes you for a ride through beautifully twisted other-dimensional wasteland inhabited by souls yearning for TRUE, REAL and UPLIFTING experience, trying to elevate themselves from the all-encompassing urban decay and numbness. Being a fan of post-apocalyptic books, movies and games I buy Lorn’s set-up wholesale, including neurosis and intense feeling of loneliness and despair which seems to prevail across the entire album. I perfectly understand this type of neurotic melancholia – I feel this way more and more often recently. This is the music created by a troubled soul for troubled souls.

However, Nothing Else should not be interpreted only in terms of moral dualism of good vs. evil or as a nihilistic manifesto. It offers much more music-wise and concept-wise. Lorn is a fantastic beatmaker and his tracks are multi-layered compositions with all the details polished like chrome. Harsh beat and dubby sub-bass mixed with touching (or cutting) synths are perfect tools used to create the music piece you really want to start all over again after the first hearing. Moving from a much-too-short introduction of Grandfather, through military funeral march in the most depressing tune – Army of Fear (it should be rather called Army of Dead), mad and repulsive Automaton, through acid-laden Voids to reach the depths of hell of tormented souls in Tomorrow. Then, Lorn seems to release some of the tension and finally gain some peace of the mind, in the beautiful Cherry Moon or my personal highlight of the entire album, i.e. energetic and upbeat Greatest Silence.

The closing, uncompromising track What’s the use is a real ode to melancholy. The moment when the distorted ghost vocal drops gives me nightmarish creeps, but I would not call this an unpleasant feeling, on the contrary. It is very REAL and RAW and reaches deeply into the depths of my soul. The "what's the use" phrase has been haunting me for weeks and when I listen to this track I have tears in my eyes. And these are tears of joy and sadness at the same time.

One should cherish such works of art as this type of experience has become a luxury product in the totality of our mediated and artificial environment full of mediocre copy-cats and untalented mainstream starlets. Take you all this record and listen to this, the reward will come sooner than you expected.

On May 7th, my favorite beatmaker Robot Koch released Listen to them Fade EP (Project Mooncircle). One of the kind, vintage electronica, where dreamy female vocal meets strange sound samples, surfing through the multi-layered, moody compositions to the accompaniment of constantly tempo-changing breaks and totally sick drums and pads (Brujeria, Like Rain). This time analog and organic sounds seems to win the battle with machine keyboards and the result of their fight, the twisted, dark but very very lively beat and dubby vibe has connected with my emotions instantly! This is the record to be fully immersed into, rich with mind flavors and archaic, tribal goodness. As usual in case of innovative style of Robot Koch, this music is hard to describe and extremely versatile, but the artist managed perfectly to keep the entire 6-piece concise and complete. Though I can spot my personal highlights - Brujeria with oneiric singing by Grace and pulsating, dubby bassline which has been on a constant repeat in my player for a month or other-dimensional, trippy True riding on a squashed beat - this is the release to be digested in full from the first unsettling notes of the title track to the surreal sonic jam in Now. Listen to them Fade has been directly influenced by 2 months spent by Robot Koch in Mexico, where he collaborated again with a very talented Mexican singer Grace. I hope they will continue their successfull cooperation in a similarly inspiring environment and the results will be even more astonishing in the full-length album by Robot Koch to drop on Project Mooncircle in October this year.  Can't wait!!

Here we go boys and girls. Get ready for some serious heavy biznis delivered to you by a busy bee Bassnectar. He has just dropped another super sick EP of face-melting quality. You better check your amplifiiers and speakers for overload protection and warn your neighbors before previewing this stuff. As Lorin wrote on his site, the tracks on this release were inspired by a recent tour across the States. Here, one can definitely hear a very successful attempt of squeezing the sheer power and energy of big hall sound system - creating havoc on the dancefloor with timestretched build-ups and hard hitting drops riding on sick bassline, which is the trademark of Bassnectar stylee - into a digital or vinyl format to be played not only by DJ's in their sets but also at home or at work :) Of course the actual unmediated experience of going to the club to be destroyed into pieces by a big wall of heavy bass cannot compare to listening to this on any media, but ... I still expect to share a few nice jumpy and vibrating moments of serious bass pumping when playing Blast Off or Timestretch on my car's sound system with volume set a bit too high for an average listener. Ha, ha, ha this will be my personal revenge on all these wankers playing latest top-40 shit in their BMW's of SUV's. No matter how hard they pump the volume up, they will never be able to jam the heavy bass coming from my vehicle :)))

Bassnectar managed to release one of the best, most consistent and blasting EP's I've heard this year with 4 fantastic original compositions and 4 equally good remixes with top-notch production quality. Starting from a typical party smasher of Here We Go, with crunky and distorted bassline, a mandatory build-up and emcee instructing people to get ready to whatever sonic assult comes next, through pulsating wobbley extravaganza of a dubstep riddim in Bass Head to the highlight of the entire realease for me, that is Blast Off.  A collaborative effort of Bassnectar with a talented Jantsen from Colorado (I've heard tons of unreleased from Jantsen, and believe my werd - this boy knows how to twist the knobs and push various buttons) will simply blast your head off with sick and crunky, looped synths, infectious beat and a cut-up voice sample most of you will definitely recognize. Listening to this track makes me really sad when I realize how far from the epicenter of Bassnectar DJ'ing activity I live, the more so as he seems to tour only US forgetting about the rest of the world (yes, Mr. Lorin, it is a complaint from a European!). Timestretch is a full-fledged heavy bass meditation rolling through the speakers (or headphones) with a force of a 100-ton tank, crushing everything on its way, but gushing with emotions nonetheless. Then comes a nice little remix of DJ Vadim's Maximum feat. La Methode by Bassnectar and ill.Gates.  Great head-nodding business and dancehall riddim relying on a sparkling bass.  Westcoast Lo-Fi Remix of Timestretch is even more epic and spacey than the original, best remix in the pack for sure. Finally, two low sub killers in filthy dubstep remixes of Bass Head. SPL turned the original into dark and crunky wobbley affair which, when reinforced by Funktion One type of sound system, would easily rip open the chests of dancers or at least have a serious impact on the integrity of the venue's walls. This tune gives me real shivers! MRK 1 remix is also a wobble business but with more crispy clean bassline. All in all, Timestretch a must for any fan of sick subs and whompy bass. Highly recommended!

AirHornSteppersFromSlaughterhouse - Schlachthofbronx released another blasting ghetto tech / dancehall / carnival rave step EP - Ayoba ('cool' in South African slang)  on Man Recordings. They are again supported by the tireless Soveto-raised and born emcee involved in so many projects recently I've lost count - Spoek Mathambo plus MC GNUCCI BANANA, MC Marina and MC Leka. Apart from the great title track which you can listen and download for free below, EP offers baile funk ghetto stomper of  Vem Que Tem with MC Marina on the mike (I cant stop swinging my head like crazy listening to this), hard ghetto frenzy in  Sai Safarada and another small little gem of this EP - namely silly Balkan  air-horn step made in Munich -  Tulum. All in all a 'must have' for all fans of ghetto tropical bangers. Forget about overrated Major Lazer - Schlachthofbronx is THE SHIT.

MISK - SATURATION

I try to clean some backlog from my e-mail account from 2009 before it grows to alarming proportions. I definitely would not like to miss one of the best releases of the end of 2009, namely Saturation by San Diego-based Misk. Technically speaking this is his full-lenght debut, but he dropped some tunes on vinyl and in digital format on a few dubstep labels last year and you definitely hear that he is not a newcomer to beat-making. His music was supported by e.g. Rob Booth (Electronic Explorations series), XI/Ultragamma, DLX, Starkey. All the compositions on Saturation seem to be very tightly built, flowing smoothly to encompass the listener with really enjoyable sonic textures. Starting from the amazing Subterranean Crawlspace - spacey, glitched out synths, full of bleeps, nice kicks and snares, this track reminds me of Starkey’s ‘gutter bass’ style or wonky excursions of the Lucky Me crew. No wonder Starkey featured this very track in his recent Fact magazine mix. Misk very easily creates beautiful and dreamy landscapes moving from mid-tempo to down-tempo and back, all lighten up by twisted broken beats and neon synths and based on heavy sub-bass, like in Cookies for Breakfast, Maurey, New Orleans or Lizard Lift. I also really dig Misk's experiments in WARP'ish sounding Worms and Fast Food or very deep, unnverving Fur Pants (my personal highlight of this release). In general, this is definitely one of the most consistent and interesting albums of 2009. One can only appreciate the music eclecticisms of Misk and the ease with which the listener can immerse into this music head to toes. You can have it for a mere 5 US$. Don't sleep on this!

No time to write a proper review of this record unfortunately, but at least I don't want you to miss a very interesting and eclectic remix album of Comfort Fit's "Polyshufflez" out now on Tokyo Dawn Records. Germany-based Comfort Fit's experimental hip-hop in fourteen impressive and unique re-interpretations by e.g. Laurent Garnier, Domu, Opolopo, Atjazz, Boom Clap Bachelors, Robot Koch, Jay Scarlett, fLako and more. Tons of great electronica, beautiful beats, cut-up vocals, bleeps, lo-fi minimal soundscapes, experimental synthetizer solos. Let your mind immerse in this caleidoscope of future sound. Highlights for me are: Jay Scarlett's head-nodding hip-hop remix, swede:art's pounding 'breather', Robot Koch's multi-layered electronic journey for open-minded listeners (another great tune from Robert), fLako's neon-synths dreamy re-fix, Comfort Fit's specey remix of their own track and finally Opalopo's slowed-down, unsettling, weird beats. The rest is also definitely worth checking. Very solid release!

Bounce Bounce wiggle wiggle shake shake to the gangsta ghetto beats. Big Dope P is in da house. He is back with the new EP including 4 remixes of his Southside Anthem initially released on Dirty Geto Traxxx Volume 1 in May 2009 on moveltraxx. Big Dope P came to my radar thanks to absolutely smashing remix of Barely Evil by RQM. I really dig his uncompromised approach to music and juke house bouncy goodness he unleashes on the listening public. Great for resetting your mind after a tiresome day'n'nite of multi-tasking: browsing / listening / pretending-to-work / doing some other less important daily routines (like eating, talking to your girlfriend or playing with your kids). However, the main purpose of Big Dope P's music is quite obvious - he drops ill bombs to be activated in the clubs during hot ass-shaking manouvers at the dancefloor.

Yeah, great stuff from Big Dope P. Ghetto bounce in full force!!

The first remix on the release is from Moveltraxx' DJ HILTI. Juke house uptempo frenzy and fast drums will make you shake and jump like crazy. Copy that? Turbo Phenix & Wicked Fox aka THE CHEERZ (Ho-Ju Rec/Moveltraxx) go totally mental in a stomping B-More / Fidget Electro Banger. This one will be rinsed heavily by DJ's, I'm absolutely sure. The Cheerz has just drop their first EP on Ho-Ju Records which is supported by Kissy Sellout who spins their records every week on BBC1. More solid Baltimore comes from EMMANUELLE Crew. Brokenbeat based remix is very dancefloor-oriented and ghetto vocals spice up the shit properly. Finally, DEEMAH (OM Recordings/D'Lectable Rec) delivers classic house tune with chopped up samples which is rather not my cup of the tea.

One more remix of Southside Anthem which did not fit the release can be downloaded for free. Acid house remix by Doan (TV On Mars / Musique Moderne / Interferences / dBfX) is heavy!
