Corporation is squeezing the last juices from me, my blog suffers, but I shall never surrender he he he. I present a few tunes worth checking out of the mass of music that accumulated over the last few weeks. I would like to apologize to all the great artists and promoters out there sending their stuff to me but the time is a scarce commodity in Dr Krank's mansion recently. Trust me, I hear ya and I hear your stuff. Keep up the good work guys - I love you! (Dr Krank's waving a hand in late Michael Jackson's manner).
I am really proud to post a couple of tunes coming from Poland. U Know Me Records, a new sibling labal of JuNouMi Rec (releasing polish hip-hop since 2002) is definitely at the forefront of new beatz movement made in Poland right now. After a fantastic release of Teielte's Homeworkz (read my review here) and an interesting LP Digital Gaden by Kixnare last year, they have new tunes in the pipeline.
The first release from U Know Me in 2011 is a laidback, jazzy and twisted funky stuff from Daniel Drumz available on 10" vinyl or in digital format (e.g. on Juno) Here is the preview of the title track "Lay Low On The Treble" reminding me of the music released on Tokyo Dawn Records. Really good quality and nice work Daniel!
The next release on this label will be even better!! Let me take you for an absolutely mesmerizing and enchanting trip with Lower Entrance featuring oneiric vocals of Natalia Grosiak. This tune made my day and really helped to drop out at least for a few minutes. Longish intro leads to the great, trippy beat with a nice use of delays and Natalia singing in a manner of Oriental divas. She bought me instantly.Unknown Variation is the first single from forthcoming Lower Entrance's EP [UKM 004]. Can't wait to hear the rest of the stuff.
ptr1 from Płock (Poland) released one of the best EP's of 2010 (Above the Structures), and his Cold has been haunting me for months. His new tune Warmth posted to soundcloud is equally good. ptr1 again creates the moody sonic excursion into the barren land. Beautiful!
Robot Koch is a great producer but equally good remixer. What he did to Kraddy's Let Go, as a part of the Labirynth Remix Project , is simply 'osom!! Lush vocals of Juice Aleem and Justice and heavy bass, dubby beat make this tune an instant crowd-pleaser. I wish I was now at the dancefloor in some club with sweaty bodies dancing and jumping around me to this groovy robotic rhythm. TIP!
More twisted stuff from Pixelord, a free download of Tropical VIP refix of his Fish Touch from the recent EP on Error Broadcast, also posted on xlr8r site yesterday. Properly UK basssed tune. I LIKE!
Finally, the carnival butchers from Bavaria, Schlachthofbrox, in a preview of their forthcoming Nasty Bass EP dropping 15 Feb on Mad Decent. Ghetto Bass mixed with Cumbia, occasionally going into the extremes of Juke House frenzy. I love these crazy bassterds.
My inbox is overflowing with great music again. Here is a Doktor Krank's pick of new tunes shared on soundcloud which I haven't checked for some time. Less writing more listening :)) Quality guaranteed, I accept no returns or complaints.
Starting from + verb tunes which always delivers fresh quality sonic pleasures.
One of the best tracks from one of the best records this year - Swede:art's Linguistics in B.Bravo remix available on a recent Tokyo Dawn Records Compilation "The Heart" and soon to be released on the "Emotional Colors Remixes"! Check the label's site for details.
And here comes the first ever completed track by a well-known trickster and champion of one-liners from Glitch Hop Forum - i.e. Android Bishop called Surveying the Landscape of Life's Choices. Hey Mr. Bishop, I am postive somebody out here really enjoys this little tripe :)) Check Android Bishop's bandcamp for free download.
Kether is a duo of Stephan Jacobs and Ruff Hauser. Nasty dubstep (but retaining the "soul", which is not the case in so many dubstep productions recently) is their thing. Check it!
Finally, something completely different, air-horn carnival butchers from Munich - Schlachthofbronx ft. Gringo & Nem in Fock Me Avontade and Schlachthofbronx remix of Dj Beware & Mototpitch tune as a part of Hennessy Black Mixes. I f...g dig your style boyz! Pure Gasolina!
Monster no. 2: Starkey: The creator of monstrous, unrivaled and one-of-the-kind synth symphonies you cannot confuse with anything else. Very good news is I'll see Starkey playing live at the forthcoming Audioriver Festival in Płock in a few days! Super stoked I am :))
Monster(s) no. 3: Stephan Jacobs vs Die Antwoord: Another monster remix by Stephan Jacobs, this time reworking the original by RSA's most famous monsters - Die Antwoord.
Finally the Mash-up Monster: Weekid representing Łódź, Poland, mashed up great PANTyRAiD tune with voice samples of very concerned and angry people talking in Polish about a missing cross (or "krzyż" in Polish - you hear this repeated over and over in various contexts - most clearly when a guy screams Gdzie Jest Krzyż - (eng. Where is the cross) like at 1'23" and on). A clear allusion to the current political situation too complicated to describe on a music blog :) Absolutely fantastic patchwork!!
My favorite air-horn carnival butchers from Munich, Schlachthofbronx, finally featured on xlr8r podcast! Ghetto dancehall bouncy trip, full of originals and remixes, with a fast forward ride through all the Mad Decent-type gems of world music like cumbia or baile funk plus lots, lots of fantastic vocals. Schlachthofbronx are the absolute masters of eclectic fusion of stomping etno bass riddims. I wish I had enough money to book them for a show in Warsaw, though the day after the party I would probably need to see some Oriental Healer to repair my dislodged joints.
Stephan Jacobs from LA in a great crunky dubstep treatment of Benny Benassi's Love is Gonna Save Us. I really dig the way this guy handles the bassline in his tracks, and the modulated vocal in this one is also first rate!
Crookers release their new single 'Remedy' today (March 3rd)! Jeuce crew from UK has just released (with Southern Fried Records seal of approval) an ass-kicking remix of Crookers track. Grab this tune as it includes properly heavy bass and some serious drops to crash the dancefloors or sound systems around you. Jeuce are a live electro/dubstep act based in Leeds, built up of four members. They are now also one part of the freshly launched Get Hype Collective; a collaboration of like-minded Acts, DJ’s, Designers and Promoters. You better memorize this name as I expect some bombs dropped by them in the nearest future. The new single 'Flavour' by Jeuce will be released in April, with remixes from Kidda, Bare Noize, Kanji kinetic, Audiofun and more. Can't wait.
Tambour Battant duo from France remixing Missil on her Chuppa EP. Some time ago, I used to listen a lot to Missil, thus I'm really stoked to hear this release. The EP comes with a bunch of remixes covering a pretty broad music spectrum to fade any dancefloor. Apart from the fast-rolling dubstep stomper by Tambour Battant, there is a fidget/kuduro version from manaia; the more clubby delivery from stereoheroes and mustard pimp, ghetto booty shit from kaptain cadillac (!!!!) or the tropical minimal version from edu-k. Grab the 12" picture disc on Juno.
Finally, my favorite air-horn carnival butchers from Munich - Schlachthofbronx has just dropped their Ayoba Remix EP and Man Recordings offers a free track for your listening pleasure. Don't hesitate! The absolutely smashing dubstep bassline of the Finnish producer - Top Billin with Spoek vs. Gnucci Banana doing the ranting = instant dancefloor anthem. One of the best tracks I've heard recently! Check the entire EP on Junodownload. GO BOYS GO. GIMMEE MORE!
AirHornSteppersFromSlaughterhouse - Schlachthofbronx released another blasting ghetto tech / dancehall / carnival rave step EP - Ayoba ('cool' in South African slang) on Man Recordings. They are again supported by the tireless Soveto-raised and born emcee involved in so many projects recently I've lost count - Spoek Mathambo plus MC GNUCCI BANANA, MC Marina and MC Leka. Apart from the great title track which you can listen and download for free below, EP offers baile funk ghetto stomper of Vem Que Tem with MC Marina on the mike (I cant stop swinging my head like crazy listening to this), hard ghetto frenzy in Sai Safarada and another small little gem of this EP - namely silly Balkan air-horn step made in Munich - Tulum. All in all a 'must have' for all fans of ghetto tropical bangers. Forget about overrated Major Lazer - Schlachthofbronx is THE SHIT.
Bavarian AirHORN Steppers from Hell - Schlachthofbronx have recently released a fantastic album on DiskoB - Schlachthofbronx and Belly Fulls EP (read my review here). To support the promotion of this release, the boys decided to spread FOR FREE a track for your listening pleasure. Stomping beat and great fat synths plus ridiculous hop hop hop hop dance shit and voila. Grab it - highly recommended!
I really recommend you listen to the entire release, its full of pink pills and jumpy sound. Great for indoor and outdoor fitness. Find below a few links where you can purchase this:
Schlachthofbronx - Schlachthofbronx (2009) 8 out of 10****
Ghettobassdancehallairhornsteppers from Munich have just released a fantastic double feature. Full length self-titled Schlachtohofbronx digital album and a Schlachthofbronx ft. Slushpuppykids - Belly Full Of Pills EP on vinyl. I hereby announce the official opeaning of the horn step Bavarian season. Watch out for happy pranksters equipped with air-horns making practical jokes of unsuspecting party goers at venues next to you.
Schlachthofbronx came to my attention with two fantastic tracks hitting the blogosphere earlier this year, i.e. kuduro / cumbia influenced La lente and infectious dubbed-out dancehall riddim Good to Go. I have been eagerly awaiting their full-length debut and I have not been disappointed at all. 15 tracks full of stomping beats and drums but most of all crazy synths, trumpets and horns deliver a modern dancefloor-oriented world music, ranging from balkanian turbo folk through bloodclat Jamaican dancehall, flirtations with kuduro to full-grown modern banger beats.
Schlachthofbronx have created a very unique 'trickster' style with unexpectadly rich sense of humor (they are October Fest folks remember) and inclinations towards kitsch and ridicule, but at the same time full of unrestrained fun and sonic pleasure and above all, great production skills. Schlachthofbronx music would force the most stuborn and coldest ass in da house to shake at least a bit. I can easily imagine them marching in the Notting Hill Parade beating big drums and ferociousoly playing synths making stupid faces :)
Highlights of the release: Chupchik (the name seems to be inspired by Borat!) - balkanian turbo folk trumpets in a nice little joint which your mother and even grandfather would love to hear at a crazy wedding party in some far far away village in Kazakhstan. Bretto - ghetto tech banger with stomping beats TIP!!, Spot Clean - dancehall riddim of Doubla J served in a fantastic ass-shaking electronic sauce by Bavarian ravers. Regulate - more stomping ghetto stuff, We run this - bloodclatt jamaican step. Too High - f...g dancefloor killer, it will definitely make rounds in DJ sets, this autotune / vocoder Slush Puppy Kids voice is sooo off kilter but I love it. If you like this you should definitely check the EP. Regulate - heavy beat and great synths (am I reapeating myself?) Belly full of Pills - Slushy Puppy Kids again in a killing 'autotune' track. Schorschl Take 3 - turbo-folk beat vs. ghetto bass and my personal candidate for a few nice remixes. Uff, I will soon mention all the tracks from this album.
To celebrate this releases on disko b, the bwyos released one track from the album named "holdin that dick". spoek mathambo & bigspace on dirty talk, schlachthofbronx on bass & airhorn.
Schlachthofbronx album is dropping soon! And I'm very eagerly awaiting this release after listening to so many fantastic ghetto bangers from this crazy Munich crew recently. As an appetizer, in August Schlachthofbronx will release an EP "belly full of pills", including collaborations with South Africa chief cribwalkers slush puppy kids (spell: spoek mathambo and bigspace!) as well as great remixes. Can't wait!
As a teaser schlachthofbronx prepared a totally ill lil mix with fresh material off the EP and some exclusive 'bavarian bounce material' (he he how correct!). This is some merciless bouncy shit with heavy bass and sick vocals.
Later this year, the bwoys go for a lil belly full of pills tour, reuniting Spoek and Schlachthofbronx (Europe and South Africa). Watch out for the dates as their shows will definitely make you horny as a bull and tired as hell.
I try and squeeze in this post a few tracks I received over the last few weeks. No music style code, no common denominator, just a good listening experience. I don't want to lose them in the torrent of music hitting me from every possible direction. A bit different from what I usually post here, but not that much :)
A funky tropical tip for your listening pleasure. After Sonido del Principe smashing tracks on the previous release from West Cost's cumbia imprint Bersa Discos, here comes another champion sound, namely Bersa Disco numero cinque with Toy Selectah (a.k.a. Toy Hernández) and a collection of remixes. Shake your body, move your limbs let the music speak, la la la latino way. Check the label's myspace for other remixes and collaborations, including Boys Noize and Dj Negro.
Two guys from Modeselektor, Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, decided to found their own label, Monkeytown Records, to create a platform for befriended artists. Modeselektor is definitely in top regions of my best electronic artistis list, thus I am very pleased to hear about this development. As they boastly claim „Anything Pharell Williams does, we can do better.“ Well, I definitely share this view ha ha ha.
Modeselektor‘s buddy Siriusmo personally invited himself to be the very first artist on Monkeytown Records. Siriusmo aka Moritz Friedrich is a real survivalist, played in a band for many years and is a fan of old keyboards. As a professional artist (painting, illustration, graffiti) Siriusmo lives off temporary jobs and even does construction work now and then. His self therapeutical way of life shows a new side with „The uninvited guest“ (to be released on 15 June 2009). Two EPs by Siriusmo will follow and album at the end of 2009, all on Monkeytown Records. I'm really looking forward to this release - a fine share of electronic extravanganza and surreal beats making you laugh and cry at the same time. Trust me, you'll really want to have this record at hand just in case :)
Negatron and Egon, two funny Bossasaurs in a remix of the great hip hop track from the new album "Blackout 2" by none other than Redman and Method Man. Oh yes, these guys bring us really dope beats and old-school flow in a funky refix. Note from the saurus themselves: The track was also made for a contest with other semi-exciting prizes, but like most herbivores we were in it for the big bunches of green leaves. Please help us accomplish our profound dreams: Knock this shit. BTW - check my blog for a ridiculous mix by the dinos.
Bodycode (Alan Abrahams) grew up in post-Apartheid South Africa, where polyrhythmic percussion first entered his bloodstream; he then lived in Portugal for years, sweating it out in Lisbon’s club scene while absorbing the sounds of electronic dance music and releasing tracks via numerous aliases. Three years after releasing 2006’s The Conservation of Electric Charge on Spectral Sound, the man known as Bodycode moved from Lisbon to Berlin. Now, Teutonic house music’s taut, jacking rhythms form the core of Immune, Alan’s new full-length as Bodycode. Immune is a a nuanced, intricately textured album of vocal-laced house tracks and “What Did You Say?” is the first single coming off it. Preview the entire album here.
Potty Mouth's Santiago and Bushido in a pumping house remix of Prairie's Cartel's track with pretty heavy and ass-kicking bassline. The official release is scheduled to take place in a couple of months on the label Long Nights Impossible Odds, however the guys were nice enough to leak this 320 high quality version. The S&B 'UWLMF EP', including the single 'Make Me Feel' featuring Colette is set to be released via Potty Mouth Music on June 9 and will be available at Beatport. Watch out!
"Tom Petty meets The Pointer Sisters in a neon karaoke bar in Tokyo singing Tina Turner. The music is a sonic milkshake, a genre blending, culture-defying laser show. Synths, raps, explosive hooks, colorful bridges, sailboats, inspiration" Well, a bit bombastic description but this is really sunny karaoke music for boys on yachts. I like the synths, some beats and funky approach to vocalization. Definitely not my type of music as such, but remixes are quite cool (esp. Minidog's). Find more about Iglu & Hartly on their site.
Finally, fresh stuff from New Zealand's guys currently living in Melbourne, Australia. Glitchy, booty mashdowns with heavy beats and tight mixing. Give it a try, you'll not be disappointed.
