Monsters in Action

Monster no. 1: NastyNasty:  The filthiest, nastiest and dopest monster in the pack. "Help! Monster basslines attack me. Somebody help me pleeassseeee"

Monsters by NastyNasty

Monster no. 2: Starkey: The creator of monstrous, unrivaled and one-of-the-kind synth symphonies you cannot confuse with anything else. Very good news is I'll see Starkey playing live at the forthcoming Audioriver Festival in Płock in a few days! Super stoked I am :))

CoRoT-9b by starkey

Monster(s) no. 3: Stephan Jacobs vs Die Antwoord: Another monster remix by Stephan Jacobs, this time reworking the original by RSA's most famous monsters - Die Antwoord.

Die Antwoord - Fish Paste (Stephan Jacobs Remix) by Stephan Jacobs

Monster no. 4: Schlachtchofbronx in a much too short monster edit of Phat Punany. I want phat punany too!

Leftside - Phat Punany (schlachthofbronx edit) by schlachthofbronx

Finally the Mash-up Monster: Weekid representing Łódź, Poland, mashed up great PANTyRAiD tune with voice samples of very concerned and angry people talking in Polish about a missing cross (or "krzyż" in Polish - you hear this repeated over and over in various contexts - most clearly when a guy screams Gdzie Jest Krzyż - (eng. Where is the cross) like at 1'23" and on). A clear allusion to the current political situation too complicated to describe on a music blog :) Absolutely fantastic patchwork!!

FREELAND COPE REMIXED PACK

It's a bit old story now, as this double pack CD was released at the turn of November / December 2009, but somehow I did not have time / mood to post it so far, but I still wanted to mention this album on my blog as I've listened to this a lot recently. The remixes of the highly acclaimed Freeland's Cope present a smashing selection of diverse beats by top-notch artists in the heavy bass or techno game. What is more - the best remix IMHO, i.e. Strange Things by High Rankin can be downloaded for free!!

On both CD's the first few tracks are my personal best. Apart from High Rankin super heavy roller on the first CD, Siriusmo (BoysNoize Records and Monkeytown Records) from Berlin in a quite restrained (for him) manner turns Rock On into nice and calm electro joint with interesting melody line. Zombie Nation from Munich successfully applies lots of lazers and drums, whereas UK-based Shadow Dancer drops a dancefloor bomb in the best of 2-Many DJ's styleee. Moving on, Brazilian, Gui Boratto builds minimal sonic textures creating the space typical for Cologne's Kompakt community and although I don't listen much to minimal techno any more, I still regularly play Kompakt stuff. I have so many great memories associated with Cologne as I spent 2 years there back in the 90's at the very peak of techno era and was buying lots of music by Juergen Pappe, The Modernist, Michael Mayer, Pentax, Reinhard Voigt and many others. Gui Boratto brings back all these memories with melancholic force.

The second CD starts from a slow but heavy dubstep remix of Rock On by Emalkay, with wobbly, talking bassline built around infectious vocals of the original. The man of the year - Joker uses again his famous purple wow neon synths of which I can never have enough. One of the best remixes in the pack. Then, IDM king Nosaj Thing steps up to deliver a short but very emotional, tight and twisted electronic journey full of delays, cut up vocals and heart-breaking loops. I love music produced by Jason Chung - he never falters, never fails and he attunes so well with my neural structure as hardly any other artist out there. PANTyRAiD offers their trademark wobbles and wide instrumentarium, whereas Dub-Tech star from Romania - TRG packs future garage beats into a soft groovy stomper. More Kompakt follows with Justus Kohncke and AC Slater, as usual, murders the public with heavy, pumping banger. A bit too repetitious and with silly beat, but don't all dancefloor smashers have such characteristic? The last remix worth mentioning is My Faust's electro-rocky refix of Strange Things, reminding me of Justice.

The entire release is not very consistent music-wise, but you know what - this is exactly what I like about Cope Remixed. I'm really fed up with releases including 10 remixes of the same track only slightly varying between themselves. Besides, I'd always rather face creative and surprising chaos where I can choose something for me than solid but boring and predictable stuff (if you know what I mean, ich don't think so).

I'M A PIMP, THEY'RE PIMPS, THIS IS WHY THEY'RE HOT HOT HOT - PANTyRAID mixtape

PANTyRAiD is MartyParty and Ooah (Glitch Mob). They are about to release their full-length called "The Sauce" (should drop in August). Honestly, it's the most anticipated piece of music by yours truly. They released some time ago a single of the coming album - Beba/Get the Money, check it, it's BiiiiG! Some time ago I posted a short mix by the boys from MAH show (check it here).

But today I have a much longer treat from their camp. I don't know about you but these guys rock my ass hard and I nearly shit in my pants each time listening to their music (maybe, I'm exeggarating a bit, but just a bit). Listen to this fantastic piece of glitchy mash ups full of memorable acapellas, distorted synths and banging beats. Their music is the real essence of what attracts me to glitch hop / crunk. Keep up the good work Raiders!

Mary Anne Hobbs - Experimental 2009 05 13 Falty DL, PANTyRAiD and Architeq [Hotfile download]

What a great mix! I missed this show from Mary Anne Hobbes, thankfully PANTyRAiD stuff is too good to become lost and the mini mix re-surfaced recently. Thanks the blogosphere for this! This is the best 15 minutes of crunky glitch hop extravanga I’ve heard in a while. Panty Raid is the collaboration project of Marty Party and Ooah of Glitch Mob fame. They have worked hard on their album and after releasing the first staff, they immediately has won the recognition and appreciation of the glitch hop community, which is not surprising at all as their heavy and dirty music is sooo infectious and their use of accepellas simply unparalleled.

The mix includes five super doper cool tracks starting from smashing mashup of Upset / Beba with great accapellas and killing sound, moving through whompy Cruncolicious electro, to enthno-inspired, meditative yet pretty energetic Worship the Sun, definitely bearing the strong influence of Ooah inspirations. The f….g gangsta shit-brained top-40 hip hop posse should listen to PantyRaid’s music and maybe rethink a few mis-conceptions they have about proper hip hop sound.

As in Hitchock movies, the mix starts with an earthquake and works it way through to even more shocks, dirty and heavy Headcase and Enter the Machine, where Glitch-Mob meets fantastic dubstep sub-bass. The entire mix is sooo f…g tight. I’m eagerly waiting for the release of their album which should happen as soon as July this year. Currenlty, their first single with Beba / Get the Money is coming off the press of Marine Parade . Don’t sleep on this! Listen to the preview here. And don’t forget to check their nice remix of Adam Freeland’s “Do You” on Beatport. PantyRaid has moved immediately to top-1 spot on my releases-to-wach list. They will be huge, I have no doubt about this.
