Lazers & Neons & Mutant Beats

I feel like slaying a few throats with clean cutting lazers. There are so many dumb-ass targets around me I would have serious problems from whom I should start. Pakistani Starfleet Commando figthing Gigantic Dove Invaders are my heroes this week :). To do my job properly I need appropriate music score. Here is the selection of latest & gratest in neon lazers. Enjoy

HALP, hailing from the Netherlands, will soon release (23rd May Boomkat) a fantastic EP Gazzillian Yeers, where lazers par excellence meticulously spray the listeners and slow burning neon synths, 8-bit distortions and twisted melodies complete the act of destruction. Definitely one of the best releases in May!

This Friday, I will attend a super great U Know Me Records night at Cafe Kulturalna featuring Robot Koch and fLako !!!! Listen to this sick  mash-up of Lil'' Wayne's Stuntin' Like My Daddy vs. Robot Koch vs. fLako. Treasure!

Robot Koch vs. fLako vs. Lil' Wayne by Bellizio

Mochipet brings more super heavy lazers in his remix of Mike Jone's "My 64". Glitchy as shit mash up full of great samples (one you'd recognize immediately) and unique, one-of-a-kind Mochipet's slabs and drums of pure liquid bass. Quality as usual!

Graintable, a cool dude from Portland is about to release new tracks on Simplify Recordings and CarCrashSet. Glitchy, crunky and melodic, the way I like! Check it out:

Finally ultra heavy lazers courtesy of Bart Tyrpien a.k.a. Bartlomein, He has just released his first EP with self-explaining title :) Let Lazers Guide You In.  A guy born in Poland who migrated some years ago to the USofA delivers 5 tracks with glitched to the max, pulsating basslines and nicely woven vocal samples, plus hard pads and drums - definitely the music which works best with big party soundsystems. Recommended!

Speakers on Full Blast!

Not much sleep lately, which is pretty shitty way to spend a day at work. Need high-energy boosters like e.g. Mochipet live recording of his show (f. Rusko) at Mezzanine with Joe Mousepad on the mike and Freddie Future on Scratches Live. Digital basslines, super strong drums and one-of-the-kind pet's glitched-up-to-the max synths is what I am craving for today.

And one more blast from a not-so-long-ago past. Being a big fan of west coast gangsta crew of King Fantastic as well as premiere Canadian glitch-hop duo of Knight Riderz, I somehow missed a fantastic, liquid digital Knight Riderz' remix of King Fantastic's Westcoastsynthesizerbeachbumgangstermusic. This tune is way too good to be missed on my blog. Drop!

Dance like it's 2999 - Apotheist, Liar, Mochipet

More spacey music today. This time coming from a very interesting project 2999 by a netlabel Peppermill Records from British Columbia. The authors asked the producers to soundtrack the end of the 30th century trying to envision what it might be or what they'd wish for humanity. Well, though the premises sound a bit bombastic the final results, that is a collaboration between audio and graphic arts, are really good! Dance (or rather fly in the sky) like it's 2999, indeed :) Every week on their site appears a new track along with its visual interpretation. I intend to check this site regularly, as the contributing artists will include such champions as slugabed, robot koch, raffertie, kid606, the widdler, taal mala, kanji kinetic and tons more.

Out of the already posted tracks (incl. Mochipet, DNTEL, Max Echo) the latast one - Steel God Creation by Apotheist from Vienna, Austria has simply torn me into pieces and made my mind fly really high!!

Apotheist - Steel God Creation by The Peppermill

Another tune definitely worth checking on Peppermill site is Upghostery by a Romanian producer Liar. Fat, extravagant trip!

And finally Mochipet's contribution Petdestroyer with amazing graphic art:

Freddy Todd - Lick the Glitch (glitch.fm mix 11 May 2010)

One of my favorites glitch-hop producers, Freddy Todd from Mecha-Detroit, prepared a super duper special mix which aired on 11 May 2010 on glitch.fm. The mix includes tracks from his new remix EP "Space 5 Penthouse" released on Car Crash Set and available via Addictech (highly recommended by Doktor Krank!! - some absolutely outstanding remixes in the pack - NiT GriT, Mochipet, Inaudible, Samples and more) plus  some  new tracks from his upcoming full length album due out on Run Riot Records in mid/late June, some other gems and ... ridiculously sick remixes by Freddy Todd himself, including ehmm, Darude's Sandstorm remix (sic!). Trance-turned-glitch he he he. All in all, one of the best crunky glitch-hop mixes I heard this year. A must for any fan of distorted synths and squashed basslines.

SPLATINUM - CAPTAIN HOOK (MINDELIXIR VIP REMIX) + PUMPING QUARTERZ REMIX EP

SPLATINUM (Andrew Luck and Dosadi), from Seattle came to my attention through Mochipet and his absolutely smashing remix of their Pumping Quarterz. Now, they spread the werd across the blogosphere distributing 16 remixes of songs from their forthcoming album WE ARE SPLATINUM to be released on Daly City Records on 04/20/2010.

The idea is that each blogger selects one track to be exclusively posted on his/her blog. After listening to all the tracks I believe that Mochipet's remix is still the best, but it has already popped up across the blogosphere. Apart from this, there are at least 6 - 7 equally good reworks of Splatinum's tunes. My next choice then is Captain Hook's VIP remix by Mindelixir. Unsettling, dark mood with heavy dubstep subs hot piano slabs based on a nearly industrial beat and pulsing bassline really caught my attention. Mindelixir is a rising dubstep producer from Charlotte, NC that released his first full length, titled Futurism in March of 2010. He is a busy boy of the Southeast scene, often traveling to play two or three shows a week! Visit his soundcloud for more music and download Splatinum - Captain Hook (Mindelixir VIP Remix) for free:

<a href="http://splatinum.bandcamp.com/track/captain-hook-mindelixer-vip-remix">Captain Hook - Mindelixer VIP Remix by SPLATINUM</a>

With the music I've heard so far from SPLATINUM, they immediately entered my list of to-watch artists and I'm now eagerly awaiting their 2 releases dropping on simultaneously on 20 April:.

1. WE ARE SPLATINUM - 9 track digital release on Daly City Records
2. Der Schplatzl 2010 - 16 track compact disc on Daly City Records (7 tracks are unavailable digitally)

You can preview Der Schplatzl on We Are Splatinum Bandcamp. One of the best and versatile full-length releases I've heard recently. Not to be missed!

SPLATINUM will have a FREE outdoor release party in the middle of downtown Seattle called the Intergalactic Masquerade Dance Party on April 20th, from 6-9PM. If you live in the vinicnity - this event is simply a must.

That's not all. Splatinum has also released a Pumping Quaraterz Remixes EP for free!!. Go to their bandcamp to grab the mighty Mochipet remix and other nice refixes from Inaudible, Pericles, Plumblyne, Ill Cosby:

Glitch and crunk in da House: Lorn, Misk, J.me.J, Inaudible, NastyNasty, Mochipet

LORN -  CONTRAST

I'm a big fan of the mysterious "sworn-to-blackLORN (you may have a chance to see how big soon, I hope, but shhhh, nothing is confirmed yet). He has been signed up with the mighty FlyLo's Brainfeeder and his full-length debut Nothing Else will drop early June this year. Thus I was really stoked to see him posting a track via Twitter. As it turned out this tune was made in 2006 :) but it has a damn fine mood and this oldschool 'cold-wave' synths and pads are just killing!

Misk - Nintendont EP MegaMix by verminstreet

Preview of the super dope EP by Misk released yesterday on VerminStreet to be downloaded via the best site for glitch / heavy bass, i.e. Addictech, including dirty remixes by NastyNasty  and Petr Passive. Read more on Misk in my review of one of the best albums I heard last year - Saturation.

Speaking of NastyNasty, here is another sick mid-tempo banger Damn Girl to be released soon on Frite Nite. Oh boy...

NastyNasty - Damn Girl by fritenite

More fat glitch goodies comes with the first release of the new UK-based glitch-hop label - Skanky Panky Records. Four sick, mid-tempo tracks with j.me.j's Gut Romper and William Breakspeaker's vs. SixAm -Vowel Mouthed  being my favorite ones. Grab the entire release on Addictech. It's nice to see Europe finally waking up to the new electronic sound originating from across the pond.

Storm Therapy by inaudible

More crunky glitch hop made in UK. Inaudible, whose tracks I covered some time ago on my blog, has dropped a very tight, whompy and ass-kicking release on the forward-thinking US label - Muti Music. The ultra crunky and spacey bassline and sick synths would easily destroy any dancefloor. Production is absolutely top-notch and Inaudible has real power under his buttons, I highly recommend his stuff to you. One of the toughest motherfu****s on the scene at the moment. You can buy the release on ... well, you know already - Addictech :)

Finally, an ol' good Mochipet in another epic, crunky remix.

MATT B - LAZERSTOMP (MOCHIPET EPIC CRUNK REMIX)

This track made my day! Mochipet has killed it again with his powerful crunky treatment of Matt B's Lazerstomp. To be released early March on Made in Glitch. The EP will also include remixes by Megasoid (yeahhhh!!) and Virtual Boy. CAN'T WAIT! BANGER!
I told'ya Made in Glitch is cooking some brainstorming goodies!

KODAHADACHO - VARIOUS ARTISTS (EXPONENTIAL AND FRIENDS)

Exponential Records, an independent label from San Antonio, Texas, (and home to such artists as AM Architect, Ernest Gonzales or Mexicans with Guns - these at least I recognize). As in the previous year, on the occasion of the forthcoming SXSW Festival they has released an extremely interesting compilation. The entire release can be downloaded for free from their website (though it's only 160kbps). If I'm not mistaken, the record will see a physical release during SXSW 2010 in a proper quality.

The concept of this work was to invite the friends of Exponential Records to create the joint VA compilation. The final result is a very diverse offering from such labels as Exponential, Ninja Tune, Stones Throw, Daly City, Creaked, Innovative Leisure, and Fake Four. You will find there the usual suspects like Mochipet, Lazer Sword, Shlohmo, Robot Koch, Poirier plus great tracks from e.g. Sutekh, Decepticon, Ernest Gonzales, Ghosts on Tape. Out of the tracks I've not heard before two really stand out. First Box Than Walk by a fantastic vocalist Oy from her latest album under the same title is a real powerful bullet, reminding me of the best works of Peaches, but with better electronica in the background. Another discovery is a  dirty, UK urban track by Jammer - a badman grime emcee and producer active on this circuit in UK for a few years already. He has recently signed to Big Dada and this track was taken from his first release there - Party Animal. I'm now anxiously waiting for his full-length which is supposed to drop in May 2010.

All in all, Kodahadacho is the best compilation I had a chance to listen to this year.

MOCHIPET - MASTER P ON ATARI TRANSFORMED VOL.1

Mochipet continues his Atari saga with another fantastic, heavy and sick release of remixes off the mighty Master P on Atari. As usual, he collected a motley crew of contributors delivering smashing and varied reworks of the crunky originals. All of them remained true to the turbo crunk spirit of Mochipet's tunes, while adding their distinctive features. Starting from the absolutely killing highlight of the entire release, namely a totally ridiculous heavy metal glitch Marshall Bass Smacks by Kraddy.  Baaaangerrrrrrr! I love these distorted guitars. And now thanks to the dudes from Daly City Records you can have this track for free - cop this mayhem you will not be disappointed:

All the artists did a great job on Transformed, but apart from the Kraddy's monster, my personal faves are Sub Swara's energetic and pumping cumbia drums with frenzy synths in Complex Cumbia Dub, Matt B's uber-lazer treatment in Master P on Obi One Kenobi, Decepticon's super tight and head-nodding roller of Master P on Chords and Coffee. I'd also throw in here a representative of turbo crunk Denver Bass Squadron - S.P.E.C.T.R.E. whose refix of Robot Basslab Juice virtually makes your speakers swet with bass.
This release also includes the complete Remix Parts for the tracks: Master P on Atari, Turbo Thizz Petnation, and Robot Crunk Juice off of Mochipet's Master P on Atari Release earlier this year. This is a special bundle for all you music producers out there.

Keep an eye out for Master P on Atari Transformed Vol. 2, coming later this year, with remixes by Jacob London, The Flying Skulls, Preshish Moments, Splatinum, Encarti, Layerz, and more

Buy this album here: Daily City Merch or at other retailers like addictech or juno. Believe me - it's worth every penny!

BEST POST-SUMMER GLITCH HOP MIXES

DEWEY DB - I CAN HAS LOUDER

Absolutely amazing mix by Dewey dB, the founder and administrator of the best music forum inda Internet - GlitchHop Forum. Very eclectic, diverse, oscillating between funky head-nodding slack and powerful heavy bass meditations. Entertaining as hell, full of emotions and multi-textured electronic voyages. Including some great original tracks by the author: ill-esha & Dewey dB - H.A.A.R.P. is f...g mental, similarly as Dewey dB & Bevvy Swift - Music Bawks (dewey's anti-wobble refix). HEYOKA - BURNING MAN '09 PROMO MIX

This guy probably needs no introduction.
Heyoka, next to Mimosa, is the best representative of deep glitchy bass aesthetics immersed in ethno sauce with IDM / dubby space, the combination which I really dig. His Burning Man mix is full of talking, glitchy sub-bass, with tons of sound effects and great synths built on dubbed out beats. He really knows how to properly handle all the buttons and he really 'feels' the space he works in. Sadly no tracklist, but I presume most of the tunes are his own originals. Check Heyoka's music released on Muti Music - Addictech. In particuladr, Gate Code LP which definitely fits well in the category of top releases this year.

SICKFILE - FLIGHT OF THE HUNG

Sickfile - young glitch-hop blood in a debut mix in this genre. Sick, crunky, and powerful selection of the best fighters in this heavy-bass category: An-ten-nae, Mochipet, Mimosa, Ben Samples, plus mighty Two Fingers or one of the best underrated dubstep acts (IMHO), namely MarchMellow. Last but not least, infectious I love college, ridiculous remix of Johnny Cash by Machine Drum and Britney Spears' edit. All in all over 80 minutes of heavy dope sickness.

TRACKLIST:
01. fat pat - dirty bird
02. an-ten-nae - warning feat. buccaneer
03. mimosa - flux for life
04. two fingers - keman rhythm
05. propa thingz - heavy metal

Last year Mochipet released an entire series of remixes off his Microphonepet full-length album. He continues the same pattern with Master P on Atari with even better results. Godzilla New Year single is definitely the most consistent and top quality compilation I’ve heard this year. It is simply a MUST for any glitch hop fan. Mochipet collected an outstanding group of remixers, practically all of them “hot” names of the scene. Pretty diverse in vibe and quite interesting individually, all the edits add up to an extremely coherent release, glitched and crunked to the max, yet full of fantastic melodies and surprising synths, bleeps and of course Chinese gongs. From the first original track till the mesmerizing and ‘raw energy’ remix by David Starfire the listener is confronted with a thick wall of heavy sound built on a properly distorted and twisted foundation with straight-in-yer face bassline. All the artists preserved the basis and added their own diverse and contagious interpretations thus creating a killing tool for converting infidels into glitch bass. I call on you, take this record and preach Glitch Hop to the masses.

The single starts with heavy metal intensity of the original version. Fast and dirty making my head spin and arousing evil smile on my face. Pure adrenaline kick! I bet you will not be able to sit on your chair longer than 60 sec. into it. No wonder Mochipet selected this particular track for remixes.

Then, glitch hop master, Vibesquad delivers a surefire hit with contagious synths, nice build-ups and crunky beats. This track will definitely be heavily rinsed by DJ’s across the globe. An-ten-nae offers super crunky, ill electronica with heavy bassline. Just ask your car’s sound system about the opinion on this track. An-ten-nae is one of my favorite producers and he shows outstanding skills and delivers heavy weight bomb of distorted synths and fantastic melody, which reminds me of the work of another talented artist, namely dubstep / breakcore don Cardopusher. TIP of the release without a doubt! And don’t forget to check An-ten-nae’s Acid Crunk vol. 5 released recently. His music is so ill.

A lady producer, Ana Sia, steps in and takes the listeners for a trip into slowed down distortions, dark synths and fast drums in one of the fattest tracks, utilizing low frequency and sub bass in the best possible way. This girl knows how to rock hard. Mimosa plays with emotions like none other. His remix is a nice foretaste of his killing EP (Flux for Life) released on Muti just a few days ago. Dreamy and unsettling melody craftily woven into glitched beats and heavy bass. Ready-made score for a 21st century poetic docu about humanity obsessed with technology reaching a boiling point of greenhouse effect. Archaic revival seems to be the only solution…
Moving further into different areas, Mexico’s own Nortec Collective (Clorofila) delivers glitched Cumbia with very nice distorted and delayed trumpets and accordions. Reminds me a bit of Balkansky’s ethnic stuff. I thought that combination of Cumbia and glitch-hop may be too risky, but this track proves quite the reverse! These two music genres currently occupy the top of my list thus I simply can only appreciate this nice little joint. Keep’em coming Nortec!

Finally, here comes the second best remix by the head of Six Degrees Records - David Starfire. Ultra heavy glitch hop in a mesmerizing oriental sauce. I love such sweet and sour treats, simply delicious. Gong Gong Gong. If instrumental is great and rules in my car’s sound system, the version featuring a vocalist is just unbelievable, utter, proper shit. Kudos to iCatching for finding a right flow and raw energy fitting so well the production of David Starfire.

The more releases of such quality hit the market, the faster glitch hop will gain the right momentum to spread really wide. I keep my fingers crossed.
