Krampfhaft - Spit Thunder EP (Saturate Records)

First promos, previews and video trailers of the super duper release Spit Thunder by Krampfhaft (Joris van Grunsven from the Netherlends) on Saturate Records appeared months ago and finally at the begining of July this thing is out physically (7") and digitally (A vinyl is released in just 250 copies, you better hurry). This is the type of futuristic music I am into right now! Very well produced mash up of mutant lazer bass, juke beats, extravagant and experimental electronic excursions into sonic landscapes full of mind-twisting synths and stabs of pure liquid sound. The title track Spit Thunder is most 'classic juke' of the four, but more tuned-down, built on nice and spacey button work. Perfect Grain Structure has a totally infectious 'silly' beat, a kind of funny experiment which works surprisingly well. However, my personal highlight of this release comes as a digital bonus. In Congo Blade Runner the artist creates an ever-expanding sonic structure with catchy melody lines and fantastic synths. Killer!  Grind is another 'jukey' trip but  I also read it as a an illustration of some space drama, a deep cosmic yearning of poor machines lost forever in the void ...

Spit Thunder is a great follow-up to Brightly Colored Candy Teardrops released last year (read my review). This guy has his own distinct style and we will see more great releases from him very soon (e.g. forthcoming on Rwina Records). Saturate Records proved again they are a label to watch. All their releases so far (Krampfhaft, heRobust, Luisterwaar, Acre) were of top-notch quality and offered future-oriented beatz music which really suits my taste. Forthcoming releases (e.g. Coco Bryce) sound equally tasty :)

[G5003] Damscray - Blot Method EP by G5 Music

DOKTOR KRANK'S RELEASE OF THE MONTH - 9 out of 10***

Damscray (Albert Khasanov) from Russian Super Bass Duo, Demokracy, has just released his solo work - Blot Method EP. Another sure winner from Siberian Label, G5 Music, distributed worldwide by Alpha Pup. If I am to describe this versatile release in one sentence, I'd say this is oriental music produced by a modern shaman for all mechanical beings. I read a lot of SF stuff and I can easily imagine this music as a perfect score to stories about intelligent AI's in post-human starfaring reality. This is as soulless, cold and nerdy as electronic music can ever be, yet full of 'emotions' but of more teethgritting, aggressive and synthetic type. Which I really like! All humans are indeed robots but built with organic matter :) As a matter of fact, most humans live their entire lives in robotic stupor, fed with media celebrity pulp, never stepping out of their reality tunnels manufactured by the Mainstream Totality. Unfortunately, most of such robots will never hear this stuff, which is a real shame.

The beginning and closing tracks staple together four hard, raw and veeeeery digital tunes thrown by Damscray at listeners with enormous and totally consistent power. "Sandworm" makes a beautiful oriental introduction to mechanical heaviness. "Blot Method" and "Headplate" are amazing symphonies of silly hydraulic pistons & gears, with unnverving synths and distorted basslines which any robot would simply love at first hearing. Steampunk par excellence! A f***k anthem and my personal highlight, "Bug Detector" will not only detect all bugs in your sytem but will definitely teach them how to dance, whereas "One Finger Punch" will punch holes in your mind with every drop and ass-kicking drums.  All ending in a kind of bass-heavy anti-climax in "The Rhythm Room". I strongly recommend Blot Method EP. Don't sleep on this people, one of the best releases this year.

Buy it on Boomkat and at other sellers in the interweb.

Sduk & Halp vs. NiT GriT & Stephan Jacobs vs. ill-esha

Seclusiasis and Slit Jockey started the series of free promo singles showcasing crossovers between the artists representing both sister labels. The first joint release is ultra synth-heavy 8-bit banger "Lung" by Sduk and Halp. Genuine dancefloor smasher of highest order! Don't sleep on this peeps. Great start to the new project.

Next collaboration is a stomping tune full of heavy and glitchy basslines and wicked female vocals coming from two champions of bass sound - NiT GriT & Stephan Jacobs who has just released a package of three tunes under the monicker of Pizza Party. Dubstep made in USofA. Not bad, not bad at all.

Finally, a lovestep version of The Weeknd's tune The Morning by the Canadian princess of bass - ill-esha. Lovely, indeed!

Lazers & Neons & Mutant Beats

I feel like slaying a few throats with clean cutting lazers. There are so many dumb-ass targets around me I would have serious problems from whom I should start. Pakistani Starfleet Commando figthing Gigantic Dove Invaders are my heroes this week :). To do my job properly I need appropriate music score. Here is the selection of latest & gratest in neon lazers. Enjoy

HALP, hailing from the Netherlands, will soon release (23rd May Boomkat) a fantastic EP Gazzillian Yeers, where lazers par excellence meticulously spray the listeners and slow burning neon synths, 8-bit distortions and twisted melodies complete the act of destruction. Definitely one of the best releases in May!

Mochipet brings more super heavy lazers in his remix of Mike Jone's "My 64". Glitchy as shit mash up full of great samples (one you'd recognize immediately) and unique, one-of-a-kind Mochipet's slabs and drums of pure liquid bass. Quality as usual!

Graintable, a cool dude from Portland is about to release new tracks on Simplify Recordings and CarCrashSet. Glitchy, crunky and melodic, the way I like! Check it out:

Finally ultra heavy lazers courtesy of Bart Tyrpien a.k.a. Bartlomein, He has just released his first EP with self-explaining title :) Let Lazers Guide You In.  A guy born in Poland who migrated some years ago to the USofA delivers 5 tracks with glitched to the max, pulsating basslines and nicely woven vocal samples, plus hard pads and drums - definitely the music which works best with big party soundsystems. Recommended!

Mixing Monday: Donky Pitch, Pixelord, + verb, Kuedo, Coco Bryce.

Last week brought a few interesting mixes and I decided to load them wholesale to my site. Hours of spacey synths, heavy bass and stomping beat in a mutant sauce of contemporary experimental electronica. Enjoy! (All tracklists after the jump at the bottom of the page).

Let's start the selection from the latest, super hot mix from the Lord of All Pixels i.e. Pixelord. In Big UP's podcast he offers top-notch selection featuring Alexey's own stuff and remixes, a great Zeppy Zep's remix of Spellbound by a Polish producer hailing from my hometown - Tom Encore plus huge Krampfhaft tune and f...g heavy lazers from Naive Machine and loads more. Definitely the mix not to be missed!

Big Up Podcast 44 - Pixelord

Donky Pitch has recently stormed the scene with their releases and this is another smashing radio show, featuring an exclusive mix from LA's Groundislava and a short mix by Ghost Mutt. The selection is eclectic as usual featuring tons of unreleased stuff from e.g. Slugabed, Jonwayne, Blue Daisy, Nasty Nasty, Nightwave, KRSUR, 813 and much more.
Just Groundislava's mix alone is worth downloading this 3-hour monster. He has recently dropped an amazing self-titled debut on Friends of Friends which is one of my favorite releases this year. Expect more words about this on DrKrank's blog soon. Preview and cop the album on boomkat

Donky Pitch - Hivemind vol. 7 f. Groundislava and Ghost Mutt

Now is the time for off-kilter synth bonanza courtesy of Skwee Master from Holland - Coco Bryce in a mix for glitch-hop.pl. Absolutely wicked stuff! No tracklist, unfortunately :(

GLITCH-HOP.PL_Podcast#07_by_COCO_BRYCE by Mash Machine

Slapping and cybarblapping mix from + verb, an artist consistently developing his own unique style full of heavy basslines and extensive melody lines, glitchy and touching at  the same time. I have been his fan for years, and as usual this guy never disappoints. This mix is the latest installment in his music career, offering a preview of several unreleased tracks. Expect big things coming from + verb on, among others Robox Neotech. And don't forget to invite him to a town near you for a sick lazer set. Return on Investment guaranteed!

+verb - Cyberblap2011 Sahn Mixtape by +verb

Kuedo a.k.a. Jamie Vex'd in a short mutant wonky mix with lots of twisted hip-hop beats and rhyming for Belgrade's Svetlana Industries. This is one of these artists whom I have followed since my early dubstep years and each of his 'faces', either as a part of Vex'd duo or solo as Jamie Vex'd or now Kuedo, is inspiring and interesting and shows great sensitivity and feeling of the urban electronic scene. I'm anxiously waiting for his new releases.

I haven't even finished listening to this mix before posting it. I know and you know it will be good and you will download it whatever I write here, right? Low Limit from Lazer Sword in his mix for Brainfeeder delivers 40 minutes of astro-slappity-blap electro funky stomp. I don't even need a tracklist I devour this in full!

Friends of Friends Mix series: Darkhouse Family - Pump That In Your 4x4

Friends of Friends label / portal / creative center attracting super talented beatmakers has just released a funkstatic, twisted, mutant beat mixtape by Don Leisure & Metabeats a.k.a. Darkhouse Family, the duo hailing from Cardiff (check their Family Trees EP released a few months ago on Fat City). Fat beats indeed all across the board with every single name and track in the selection fitting perfectly well, as a result creating an uniterrupted flow of head-nodding bliss with occasional taste of sick weirdness (like Slugabed vs. Eprom. Oh my oh my oh my!!) I f...g demand Eprom's Psycho to be released IMMEDIATELY! Great mix from the 1st to the last second, highly recommended by your humble Doktor!

Emergency Broadcast System Compilation: This is not a test

New, hot, Canadian label Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) has released a dope compilation including tracks by leading Western Canadian glitch-hop, bass-heavy producers, featuring stomping music by the mighty crew of Knight Riderz, as well as Dewey DB & Ill-Esha - founders of the hub of glitch hop community: Glitch Hop Forum, and other pioneering producers already mentioned on my blog, like JmeJ or Jay Wikid plus new names for me (but definitely not for the Canadian headz) - Sharps, Mat the Alien or Audited Beats.

According to the label's statement "Emergency.Broadcast.System set out with a mission to release not only music that bangs in the clubs, festivals and streets but also is simultaneously essential music for your headphones and home listening" This compilation delivers as promised, offering not only decent whomp & stomp beat and super glitchy bass, but also full-fledged, well-developed and consistent music compositions. Knight Riderz lead the gang of merry bassterds with their two super fat productions- an instant classic Play and Glitch-Mobesque - Key to the City. Mat the Alien drops  sick bass hop banger called simply Lazerbass - for me the highlight of the entire release next to Knight Riderz' Play - while another newcomer (?) Sharps evokes quite a different emotions in his beautiful deep sub-bass meditation The Vast Expanse. Add to this JmeJ's or Jay Wikid's bass improvisations, funky bass in The Grand Slam Dunk by Ill-Esha and heavy-bass cinematic score in Dewey DB's - The Adventures of Albert the Giraffe and you'll get a full picture of the versatile, eclectic compilation which stands out from the sea of booooring distortions, wobbles, drills, weak production skills and monochromatic tunes with single patterns repeated all over which have flooded the bass scene for some time already. I highly recommend you 'saturate your ears with all those delectable details' (to shamelessly borrow the mottoe of glitch.fm Internet radio) - I guarantee you'll be satisfied!

Lazer Sword - Batman EP

Lazer Sword - Batman EP (vinyl and digital)

Tracklist:

1. Batman
2. Batman (Lando Kal Remix)
3. Batman (Nguzunguzu Remix)
4. I’m Gone (Low Limit Remix)
5. I’m Gone (Rustie Remix)
6. I’m Gone ft. Turf Talk

Highly Recommended by Doktor Krank - 8 out of 10***

Lazer Sword is exploring new paths of vibrant, mutant beatz in their Batman EP which is a first step to their final release of full-length debut LP on November, 2nd. I'm grinding my teeth in high anticipation of the sonic boom the super combo will unleash on the public! I have been Lando Kal's and Low Limit's fan for years and during that time the way in which they developed their style, their extra-polished technical skills, their mutual complementarity and eclectic approach to music are simply astonishing. When playing live, either solo or as a duo, they will force everyone to heavy bounce with natural ease through their top selection and MPD wizardry. Give'em a venue, any venue, and they will easily rip it apart :) I lived through such experience during the best gig of my life here in Poland, so trust my werd! Yet, as comes to the music they produce, it is always much much more than simple stomp, bounce, push & kick. Their production skills are impeccable and they are always on a lookout for some fresh, inspiring music patterns which can be squeezed from their fancy machines, while being very open to what is happening on the global electronic scene. Yeah, they have outgrown their pure-American heritage long time ago, and now seem to be more interested in electro / mutant / UK / urban sound. With fantastic effect to say the least.

I wrote about the title track Batman on my blog already, so not to repeat myself I copy & paste my comment: "Batman is a bit different from the usual high-energy electro output of Low Limit and Lando Kal, yet it definitely bears the trademarks of their style - tons of cut-up samples, mutated vocals, cold synths and very distinct micro-beat plus wonky bassline. One can definitely hear further move towards the Europe / UK urban scene (well, to be honest the boyz has followed this direction in their releases for some time already) and Batman easily fits the Glasgow's Numbers profile (what is obvious) as well as L-vis 1990's Night Slugs or some other UK G / future garage imprints"

Apart from Batman, A-side includes two fantastic remixes by Lando Kal and Nguzunguzu. Lando Kal remade the title track into slow burning synth-driven roller, while Nguzunguzu created a great, minimalistic banger with neon synths, fantastic drums, sick button job and distinctive melody line. For me personally - the highlight of this release!  A flip side, or should I write A' side, includes an electro glitch-hop anthem I'm Gone featuring the vocals by bay-area hood-rapper Turf Talk. My car's sound system can't have enough of this track and makes me bounce pretty hard, which would be rather hazardous if not for a high roof in my car :)) Low Limit's remix of I'm Gone is a laidback affair with beutiful synths and spacey loops, while Rustie went into a different direction delivering an angry and raw bombastic dancefloor banger to be digested on proper subs with kilos of Watts. In general, one of the most interesting and inspiring releases this year. Highly recommended by Doktor Krank!

Lazer Sword - 808 Mixtape

Oh boy, what a day! First NastyNasty, then Eprom and now super dope combo of soundmasters from Lazer Sword (Lando Kal vs. Low Limit) in 808 Mixtape for International Tapes!! My player barely survives the total sonic assault I am feeding into it since early morning, but my ears feel extremely gratified. 808 mix is a bit different offering than the two previous heavy-bass artists featured on my blog, and also slightly different than the usual Lazer Sword sound explorations. The name of the mix, a kind of tribute to the immortal 808 machine, is self-explanatory, but Lazer Sword playing Kudoru ?!? Well, that's surprising. Anyway, there is no other 'group' which can so successfully mix oldschool funky vibe (and tools) with extremely nu-school, ass-kicking, mind twisting, head-nodding electro/nica. LL and LK are well known for breaking genres and styles and mashing everything into one big synth-driven electro funky pulp, and this mix is the proof of their epic skills in this area. Lazer Sword for POPE!

EPROM - RobotSexTape

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !! This is the shit I've been waiting to put my ears on! EPROM finally drops his mixtape which you can download from his bandcamp. His legendary 2009 Mixtape has been on constant rewind in my soundystem for months. RobotSexTape will follow the same path, I'm sure. It is sickness all across the beats, bleeps, pieces and sick basslines. EPROM rulez. No tracklist yet. Peeps in Europe beware - in September EPROM will (or already invaded) a city near you - definitely Manchester, Amsterdam and some more. Sadly, not a city near me :(

Themselves "You Ain't It" (Lazer Sword Remix)

Barely a month till the final drop of the most eagerly awaited full-length by my favorite mutant beats combo of Lazer Sword, and xlr8r has posted a remix they did of a track by Oakland-based Themselves. This is a part of the remix record by Themselves called  CrownsDown & Company (also including remixes by e.g. Baths, 13 & God, Buck 65).  Low Limit and Lando Kal's version of the original tune is soooooo phat, liquid and robotic, riding on stomping beats and totally mutated (as usual) vocals. Killer!!!!

Silicon Summer EP - Shockout 21

Shockout has released another pumping, bass, drummy, beat heavy EP - Silicon Summer. Barcelona's wizz-kid Cardopusher (and definitely one of my favorite dubstep / lazer bass producers) offers great, Night Slugz'-like beat and synth-driven dubstep summer vibes in Heartbeat Jam, but my favorite tracks come from Cardo's friends, the Caracas production Duo of Pacheko & Pocz. Kuduro step par excellence! Cohete with neon synths, stomping kuduro beat and talking bassline creates the fusion of sounds I would really like to hear more coming from dubstep / UK Funky / future garage scene!! San Fran's Ghosts on Tape mutates the sound and vocals in a kind of liquid digital raeggaton / UK Funky style but focusing more on darker and deeper vibes. Finally, BADXMAN from Agoraphobistan in UK employs tons of lazers in a dirty, rude UK urban trip rolling on a pulsating low-frequency sub-bass. This EP is a must for any fan of forward-looking EDM!!

LAZER SWORD - FACT MIX 133

LAZER SWORD - FACT MIX 133

I have been waiting for this eagerly since last week  when I've learnt that my favorite psych-disco blap hop combo of Lando Kal and Low Limit a.k.a. Lazer Sword is going to drop a new propa mix in Fact Mix series. Already 20 minutes into their work my neck and shoulders hurt like hell and I realized I push the keys on my laptop in unison with the sick rhythm of grimey electro funk out skunky lazer shit - the sequence of Terror Danjah-Gucci Mane-DVA-Slugabed tracks in the middle is f...g insane!! LL and LK break your expectations of what comes next each time, twisting the beat, moving with ease between r'n'b vocals and dirty drops and kicks, electro whomp and oldschool grime or hip-hop anthems, mixing all the shit in a kind of electro cauldron. This time they serve even more eclectic music, including nice joints from their homies  like Mr. Dibiase, Zackey Force Funk (check a joint y ZFF with a Polish producer Piotruś Pan here), Machine Drum through heavy weight hip-hop to, well ... enought of that - just LISTEN. Definitely one of the best mixes this year!!!!

Quite surprisingly the mix includes only a two or three tracks by the boys themselves, they rather prefer to show their fantastic selector skills than promote their own music. Anyawy, anyone intending to rinse Lazer Sword's own stuff should definitely cop their super hot EP The Golden Handshake, recently released on the new Glasgow-based uber-label NUMBERS. 3D Action Jackson by Lando Kal or Where You Been 7.5 by Low Limit are simply THE SHIT (sorry for the repetitions but as you know I had quite an insane week at work and still have not recovered from my then-robot self). Expect a proper review of this EP on my blog soonish.

CLP - Designer feat. RQM (Lazer Sword remix)

YEAHHHH!! A week before the Halloween Party with Lazer Sword in Białystok, another killing remix popped up in the Internet. This time acquacrunk lazers cut up a great tune Designer by CLP i.e. Chris de Luca and Phon.o featuring Polish-born emcee RQM (yeah, another Lazer Sword - Poland connection). RQM's vocal fits perfectly the mega solid synths and cut-up beats delivered by Lando Kal and Low Limit. Oh, boy I may really shit my pants during their show :) I wish RQM could be there with us, I'd be stoked to hear this shit performed live with vocals.

This time bringing a mixture of revamped album drops and down right nasty remixes. Watch out because the features on this one are doing damage.

SPOEK (Boysnoize) next level rap lyricist based in south africa, with more and more releases up his sleeve as Playdoh and Sweat X, makes rounds on a couple of tracks for STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL. San Francisco favorite Lando Kal of LAZERSWORD providing the dubbed out electro bits on Spoek's "Kites" never disappoint. Basement style basslines and a popping synth line put the bounce on this one. Spoek even recuts some vox on the original "I'm so Trill" for Sweat X to beat down and provide that extra polish.

LAZERSWORD really out do themselves with "Designer" feat. RQM (Exploited) on a hip electro tip. Wobbly squelched out sub bass and perfect vox provided by RQM make this next level track an undeniable favorite. This one is already getting some radio play and press attention before circulation and will be on rotation for a long while. Don't miss.

Finnish label and beat extraordinaires TOP BILLIN have been making it happen on all levels with top productions getting worldwide support from Baltimore to Helsinki. Releases on Trouble and Bass, tour support for MIA, making floor inspired crate filling gems for the fans out there; and their remix of CLP's "Superconfidential" proves no different. Baltimore and 80's inspired TOP BILLIN takes Tunde Olarian's vocal to new heights. Perfect for all types of floors, this one is a sureplayer for the heads out there. Even the Instrumental is a crate filler.
Strictly Confidential keeps coming with NIC SARNO (ESP). From Milan his output is on the same tip as artists like Crookers, MSTRKRFT and Congorock. Member of The Love Supreme is signed to devoted Italian house music label ESP. He grabs Superconfidential and puts it straight on the dancefloor. Bumping beats and quirky synths that fit into sets for the likes of Oliver$ and Jesse Rose.
AND to top it off. Strictly Confidential has been mastered by THE CROOKERS and will see the exclusive vinyl release of CLP's original "I'm So Trill"

Lazer Sword in Klub Metro, Białystok, Poland 31 October 2009

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Helllazer party on Halloween with Lazer Sword in Klub Metro in Białystok, Poland on 31 October 2009. Be there, dressed up and in the mood for future brap beats served by two gentlemen who know how to rock hard. Lando Kal and Low Limit will definitely slay the house with their collage of hip-hop/grime/ glitch/ghetto/acquacrunk and much more. I'm uber stoked to meet them.

They will be supported by local bad boys playing dirty, glitchy, bass-heavy ghetto-tech shizzle: D Koola, Auricom,
Eh!Marine and Dizzy Trouble.

This is the party you cannot miss! The scariest Halloween crew will nail you hard with dirty electronic beats and heavy bass. This is the first visit of Lazer Sword to Poland. I hope they won't forget it for a long long time.
