Great mix by a guy called Lobbie, hailing from Oakland (CA).  A fantastic mashup of midtempo whompy, experimental EDM, dubstep, crunk, dnb and what not. Ranging from Autechre, Luke Vibert, Boards of Canada or Amon Tobin through Mochipet, Heyoka, 16bit to Loops Hunt (Yeesseee!!), NastyNasty, Slugabed and even Mr. Oizo, Krazy Baldhead or Busy P. Pretty eclectic selection if you ask me. What is most important, Lobbie very skilfully mixed all these components into a smoothly flowing electronic orgy of old school meets new school aesthetics. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Mochipet continues his Atari saga with another fantastic, heavy and sick release of remixes off the mighty Master P on Atari. As usual, he collected a motley crew of contributors delivering smashing and varied reworks of the crunky originals. All of them remained true to the turbo crunk spirit of Mochipet's tunes, while adding their distinctive features. Starting from the absolutely killing highlight of the entire release, namely a totally ridiculous heavy metal glitch Marshall Bass Smacks by Kraddy.  Baaaangerrrrrrr! I love these distorted guitars. And now thanks to the dudes from Daly City Records you can have this track for free - cop this mayhem you will not be disappointed:

All the artists did a great job on Transformed, but apart from the Kraddy's monster, my personal faves are Sub Swara's energetic and pumping cumbia drums with frenzy synths in Complex Cumbia Dub, Matt B's uber-lazer treatment in Master P on Obi One Kenobi, Decepticon's super tight and head-nodding roller of Master P on Chords and Coffee. I'd also throw in here a representative of turbo crunk Denver Bass Squadron - S.P.E.C.T.R.E. whose refix of Robot Basslab Juice virtually makes your speakers swet with bass.

This release also includes the complete Remix Parts for the tracks: Master P on Atari, Turbo Thizz Petnation, and Robot Crunk Juice off of Mochipet's Master P on Atari Release earlier this year. This is a special bundle for all you music producers out there.

The Earlies - Breaking Point (EPROM remix)

One of my favorite artists from West Coast, SF-based EPROM has just cooked up a seriously heavy and twisted remix (and designed the above wicked image!) of the track called Breaking Point by an experimental psychedelic pop band The Earlies for a music portal from SF called Stay Lucid. To be honest with you, I've never heard about The Earlies but in this remix I definitely hear glitched-to-the-max trademark bassline of EPROM. Arghhh love this sound! I'm all swet waiting for the mighty Humanoid to drop soon on Rwina!!

FREELAND COPE REMIXED PACK

It's a bit old story now, as this double pack CD was released at the turn of November / December 2009, but somehow I did not have time / mood to post it so far, but I still wanted to mention this album on my blog as I've listened to this a lot recently. The remixes of the highly acclaimed Freeland's Cope present a smashing selection of diverse beats by top-notch artists in the heavy bass or techno game. What is more - the best remix IMHO, i.e. Strange Things by High Rankin can be downloaded for free!!

On both CD's the first few tracks are my personal best. Apart from High Rankin super heavy roller on the first CD, Siriusmo (BoysNoize Records and Monkeytown Records) from Berlin in a quite restrained (for him) manner turns Rock On into nice and calm electro joint with interesting melody line. Zombie Nation from Munich successfully applies lots of lazers and drums, whereas UK-based Shadow Dancer drops a dancefloor bomb in the best of 2-Many DJ's styleee. Moving on, Brazilian, Gui Boratto builds minimal sonic textures creating the space typical for Cologne's Kompakt community and although I don't listen much to minimal techno any more, I still regularly play Kompakt stuff. I have so many great memories associated with Cologne as I spent 2 years there back in the 90's at the very peak of techno era and was buying lots of music by Juergen Pappe, The Modernist, Michael Mayer, Pentax, Reinhard Voigt and many others. Gui Boratto brings back all these memories with melancholic force.

The second CD starts from a slow but heavy dubstep remix of Rock On by Emalkay, with wobbly, talking bassline built around infectious vocals of the original. The man of the year - Joker uses again his famous purple wow neon synths of which I can never have enough. One of the best remixes in the pack. Then, IDM king Nosaj Thing steps up to deliver a short but very emotional, tight and twisted electronic journey full of delays, cut up vocals and heart-breaking loops. I love music produced by Jason Chung - he never falters, never fails and he attunes so well with my neural structure as hardly any other artist out there. PANTyRAiD offers their trademark wobbles and wide instrumentarium, whereas Dub-Tech star from Romania - TRG packs future garage beats into a soft groovy stomper. More Kompakt follows with Justus Kohncke and AC Slater, as usual, murders the public with heavy, pumping banger. A bit too repetitious and with silly beat, but don't all dancefloor smashers have such characteristic? The last remix worth mentioning is My Faust's electro-rocky refix of Strange Things, reminding me of Justice.

The entire release is not very consistent music-wise, but you know what - this is exactly what I like about Cope Remixed. I'm really fed up with releases including 10 remixes of the same track only slightly varying between themselves. Besides, I'd always rather face creative and surprising chaos where I can choose something for me than solid but boring and predictable stuff (if you know what I mean, ich don't think so).

Podcast numero uno from a hot new glitch-hop label based in UK - Skanky Panky Records! Properly crunked and glitched action summarizing the 2009 in a 60-minute heavy bass action. CROWDROCK - MIXTAPE

The tracklist I simply could not resist and the mix which delivers what is expected of a heavy glitched and sub-bassed work of art. BASSNECTAR - 2010 IDJ MIXTAPE

Yeahhhhh! Boombox king, Bassnectar has just dropped a super hot mixtape he did for the next issue of the International DJ Magazine. First public mixtape by Lorin in two years. Make your ghetto blasters, car sound systems and ipods ready for the bass force to be unleashed on you. The mix is very Bassnectar-centric, including lots of the re-re-tweaked versions by the man himself and what is surprising for me personally - quite a lot of drum'n'bass stuff . 

Lorin says: "Welcome to another Bassnectar Transmission. This episode is 44 minutes and 25 seconds of 10th-generation genre-re-wiring, exploring bass music through an open-minded lens, regardless of tempo, or even beat-structure… this sound clash aims straight for your body, with the intent to melt you down into a fidgeting, wobbling mess of enthusiasm and delight. This week I have been living in a kind of other dimensional vortex where the pressure from timesheets, ass-boss demands at work and kiddos at home brutally penetrated my protective bubble with the force that drained me of any creative energy and even multi-tasking did not work :( I felt like a fucking robot.

Thankfully I had a wonderful, soothing music to listen to, the music which kept my sanity in place. The project is called Dusk Ensemble (a pseudonym of Jon Rees, frontman of acclaimed art-pop outfit The Sky Is Blue). Self-titled release Dusk Ensemble, consisting of 7 absolutely gorgeous tracks will be released on Methodology Recordings on 1 March 2010. Dusk Ensemble came to my attention through another great artist, namely A Bridge Far Away formerly known as Forensics whose "Enchanted" was the debut release on this new, very promising label. Dusk Ensemble paints the spacey sonic textures with diverse elements of ambient, electronica, downtempo, minimal with bpm oscillating between 80 to 140. They all flow so smoothly and the production is so tight and impeccable that I've immediately developed an obsession, listening to this record like 20 times in a row before switching to some other stuff. I have not had such a craving for a particular music in a long, long time.

Let Dusk Ensemble take you for a jorney into the land of joyful sound, preview the entire release at Dusk Ensemble website. I can hardly wait for this album to drop on 1st March 2010.

Schlachthofbronx - Ayoba EP

AirHornSteppersFromSlaughterhouse - Schlachthofbronx released another blasting ghetto tech / dancehall / carnival rave step EP - Ayoba ('cool' in South African slang)  on Man Recordings. They are again supported by the tireless Soveto-raised and born emcee involved in so many projects recently I've lost count - Spoek Mathambo plus MC GNUCCI BANANA, MC Marina and MC Leka. Apart from the great title track which you can listen and download for free below, EP offers baile funk ghetto stomper of  Vem Que Tem with MC Marina on the mike (I cant stop swinging my head like crazy listening to this), hard ghetto frenzy in  Sai Safarada and another small little gem of this EP - namely silly Balkan  air-horn step made in Munich -  Tulum. All in all a 'must have' for all fans of ghetto tropical bangers. Forget about overrated Major Lazer - Schlachthofbronx is THE SHIT.

BEAT BUILDING PROJECT - STARKEY, RESO AND ANNEKA in Mary Anne Hobbs' Experimental show

Hectic, messy, intense, and very funny special show with Philly's Street Bass don, Starkey racing against the clock to build a totally new tune from scratch with the suport of a well-known dubstep producer and percussionist, Reso, and vocalist Anneka, plus hundreds of samples sent for this particular endevour by friends, Radio 1 stuff, producers and listerners. WOW!!  It was Roni Size who originally came up with this fantastic idea 10 years ago, he tested this in the studio with MC Dynamite.

 

While Starkey and crew are busy working and tension builds up in the world famous BBC's Maida Vale studios, Mary Anne Hobbs plays, as usual, great and eclectic selection of fantastic tracks with one of my faves from Starkey - Fidelio, great new Reso, N-type shit, beautiful Mizz Beats' Deep Medi - tradamerak sound, Mosca's Square One remix (Mosca will be on the show on Feb2)  or great future beats from collaboration of P.U.D.G.E & Dibiase or Shlomo.

Starkey (feat. Reso and Anneka) — Moments Of Mine

10 years ago, Ronis Size had 4 hours, in 2010 Starkey and co. had just 2! Gosh, techhnology is one thing but time-pressure creative beat making is quite another. And you know what (to use MAH famous phrase) - Starkey, Reso and Anneka f....g did it succesfully in barely 2h. People are working on such tunes for weeks ...

Nowadays, anyone can prepare a set full of bangers, but there are very few DJ's who know how to keep the full attention of listeners / dancers dropping heavy bomb after heavy bomb. Stereoheroes from France are the absolute champions in this competition. Pumping, powerful, energetic, limbs-twisting frenzy. Funkastic mix with Seth Rogen skits (!)- I want no more.

Werk Discs present Zomby vs. Actress

Werk Discs released a couple of tracks from Zomby and Actress. Well, 'tracks' seem to be an excessive term in this respect, but anyway nice little joints to immerse your senses in.  Though I was pretty disappointed with his One Foot Ahead of the Other EP, I'm still a big fan of Zomby and his sonic textures always work for me. Try it at home.

I don't know the original of this track but do I need to? The remix by Poirier is a fucken dirty banger riding on hi-hats, fast pads, infectious synths and merciless bassline. Surprisingly, this little big joint has no tropical reagge temperamento, the usual suspects in Poirier armory, but it is just pure killing dancefloor nuke. Nice job Mr. Poirier, now gimmee more!!

New podcast of the epic LET series ist da!! With one and only, Gaslamp Killer. Shit, I love the music aeasthetics of this m*****er. A patchworked, sonic trip full of weird, out-of-synch synths, crazy beats and out of space vocals. This eccentric combination has the force of pulling invisible strings attached to my innards not letting them rest even for a sec. Violins and clavichords, distorted guitars, wicked movie samples and heavy bass create a real Plunderphonic Orgy. One of the kind for real! L.A.’s own Kutmah is even more insane and intense. Angry rapping and sub-harmonic beats complement perfectly the Gaslamp Killer’s set bringing the podcast to yet another mother****g level.

Terre Thaemlitz - RA Podcast 188

Today, something very very special and quite untypical for my blog. Terre Thaemlitz is a man of many music faces, recording music over the years under many aliases to mention just a few: DJ Sprinkles, G.R.R.L., Kami-Sakunobe House Explosion, Social Material etc. etc. Radical queer actionist and tranvestite after years spent in NY moved to Kawasaki in Japan to continue his carrer. I first had a pleasure to listen to oniric and very elaborated ambient landscapes crafted skilfully by Terre Thaemlitz years ago. Being a poor student at that time I couldn't afford buying CD's and recorded lots of music on cassette tapes thanks to my friend who as a matter of fact introduced me to the broad spectrum of music, practically non-existent at that time in the general public awareness, except for very very small niches, where music was handed over from friend to friend personally. I was lucky enough to access such a clique of friends at the university and my music education started and has not left non-mainstream regions since then :) I've practically listened Terre Thaemlitz casette to death on my Technics Double Casette Player. His music, though being ambient and dronish, has something weird and special about it which really appealed to my inner soul. Now, years after, Resident Advisor of all possible outlets releases Terre Thaemlitz Podcast!!! And this is the same old / new TT I remember from years back and these are the same great emotions. Highly Recommended for all introverts across the world!!

MISK - SATURATION

I try to clean some backlog from my e-mail account from 2009 before it grows to alarming proportions. I definitely would not like to miss one of the best releases of the end of 2009, namely Saturation by San Diego-based Misk. Technically speaking this is his full-lenght debut, but he dropped some tunes on vinyl and in digital format on a few dubstep labels last year and you definitely hear that he is not a newcomer to beat-making. His music was supported by e.g. Rob Booth (Electronic Explorations series), XI/Ultragamma, DLX, Starkey. All the compositions on Saturation seem to be very tightly built, flowing smoothly to encompass the listener with really enjoyable sonic textures. Starting from the amazing Subterranean Crawlspace - spacey, glitched out synths, full of bleeps, nice kicks and snares, this track reminds me of Starkey’s ‘gutter bass’ style or wonky excursions of the Lucky Me crew. No wonder Starkey featured this very track in his recent Fact magazine mix. Misk very easily creates beautiful and dreamy landscapes moving from mid-tempo to down-tempo and back, all lighten up by twisted broken beats and neon synths and based on heavy sub-bass, like in Cookies for Breakfast, Maurey, New Orleans or Lizard Lift. I also really dig Misk's experiments in WARP'ish sounding Worms and Fast Food or very deep, unnverving Fur Pants (my personal highlight of this release). In general, this is definitely one of the most consistent and interesting albums of 2009. One can only appreciate the music eclecticisms of Misk and the ease with which the listener can immerse into this music head to toes. You can have it for a mere 5 US$. Don't sleep on this!

SOUTH RAKKAS CREW - THE STIMULUS PACKAGE (FREE!!!!)

Fucken shit!! Electro dancehall champions from Jamaican / Canadian South Rakkas Crew have just released a fantastic album via Mad Decent totally for free (shocked !!!!). Go grab it peeps while the offer lasts. South Rakkas Crew is very very high in my personal ranking in baile / kuduro / dancehall / socca / tropical genre. For me, they outdistance not only Major Lazer (well, I've never been a fan of Diplo and Switch combo anyway)  but most of other heavy dancehall/electro hybrids. Highlights of the release are: Double Up riddim with fantastic Killa Queens and Lady Chan on vocals (this track was heavily rotated in my car's Sound System last year), baile funk version of Doble Up riddim, Mylo riddim, Holiday riddim. In general this is a showcase of a gang of fantastic emcees, including also Capleton, Serocee or Rage rapping to pounding and infectious electro beat. I love this pure, raw energy! Definitely, one of the best free releases I had a chance to listen ever. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Gouseion and Graintable remixes (Run Riot Records)

To celebrate the new decade and the forthcoming Gouseion's LP - Retcon, Run Riot Records delivered a heavy-weight package of the remixes of Let's Crush which can be downloaded for free from their site. Don't sleep on this, satisfaction guaranteed.

GOUSEION - LET'S CRUSH REMIXES

Goseion, hailing from Portland, has established a very solid presence on the electronic scene in US with a few very interesting releases in the past two years. The leading banger of the forthcoming album (I'm eagerly waiting this release!) received a heavy treatment from a bunch of talented artists from US and Canada and Gouseion himself. I'm really stoked to see here in particular the three producers who came to my attention in 2009 and who during that year became among the best young guns in the glich hop / crunk genre. I'm absolutely positive you'll hear more about them and from them in 2010. Starting from Denver-based Samples whose heavy, liquid crunk style attunes so well with my music sensitivity. Gouseion's remix is no exception to this - crunky, burning bassline brought the original to the next level. Freddy Todd from Detroit also offers a heavy glitchy trip, but with lots of synths and weird melodies embedded. Expect more releases from him Run Riot Records in 2010. Finally, Graintable from Portland shows a perfect combination of well-crafted and distorted beats and spacey synths - in his trademark style, which I really, really dig. A Canadian LSP aka Longshanks refixes Gouseion's track in an acqua-crunk meets dubstep style with very nice neon synths and talking, heavy bassline. CaBfRee from Vancouver is the roughest and toughest of all with the final result quite satisfying. Gouseion himself changed his track into even more banging shit, he he he.

2010 starts where 2009 ended, that is with quality music. Oh, boy, I'm so stoked to for this year!

GRAINTABLE - LOST FROST REMIXES

Graintable is moving forward all the time and constantly developing his skills, he recently took Second Place at the Seattle Laptop Battle, has just released a remix of Gouseion and his other project Chip Chop (check this duo!) will drop a debut EP Launch Blank, Feb. 2nd on Run Riot Records. I wouldn't even like to start the list of big names of this scene who shared the stage with graintable during the gigs :)

This remix package is 'mellower and softer'than heavy crunk of the Gouseion Let's Crush but offers a wider variety of styles at the same time. From cut-up's of Gouseion or The Great Mundane's heavy synths through amen-based old-school flavored work by Samo Sound Boy,  to dreamy Devonwho's rework (my personal best in this package!). Highly recommended!

Starkey, the Street Bass Don from Philly will heat up the mighty sound system of Fabric's Room 1 Friday, 15th of January (did I mention before that a working Warsaw - London teleporter would be a good idea? Send your prototypes to Dok Krank). You lucky Londoners!

BOBBY BONESTORM WEIRD BASS

 

Let's start the fantastic 2010 (I hope) with some quality heavy bass, courtesy of Bobby Bonestorm.  Don't know much about this cat, apart from the fact that he is a Candian from Toronto, currently residing in China. But I do know he produces quite a banging tunes with pretty weird bassline. The weirder the better - this is a general motto of my neverending data-shuffling crawl through the noise and garbage of the surrounding reality (virtual and real) in search of hidden gems. Bobby Bonestorm's tunes deserve to be shed some spotlight on.

In particular the first one If she was your woman, with really dope and crazy bass. The second track with a code-name of SFHS offers a mixture of silly rave step and pumping, deep bass. Stupid time, happy time, indeed!
